Book Description
Sometimes you have to ignore your conscience to save your life and fall in love.
Two years ago, Henley gave up his life and transferred to a new city, creating a persona where he could finally be himself. But after going through more than a dozen submissives, he is bored and looking for a good time. He’s not asking for much—just a man twice his size who he can take down before making him beg.
Unfortunately, Henley is also an undercover agent who is stuck guarding a rich kid with a drug problem.
Stumbling home after a long shift, Henley runs into Li. Li is just a civilian, but he draws Henley in like no other has before. A spark ignites between them that can’t help but smolder. Li doesn’t seem to know the first thing about kink, but Henley has never been more satisfied or enthralled.
But Henley’s life is a lie—and he’s not the only one. When a bullet goes through his charge’s forehead in the middle of his shift, Henley finds himself on a chase that spans continents. The only way he can be with Li is if he ignores his conscience and gives up everything he’s ever stood for.
Reader advisory: This book contains instances of breathplay, primal play, drug and alcohol use, death of a minor character, violence and threatened torture.
Li
He had five rules. Five simple rules that kept his head on his shoulders and his ass out of prison.
Li shook his head, running his fingers through his hair before wincing as he touched the bruise on the back of his head. His cheek still throbbed with his heartbeat, already tinting purple where Henley had slammed into him.
Five easy-peasy rules, and he’d broken most of them with one simple job. His target was dead, which was great, but everything else was fucked.
Including his ass.
Killing Damien had been one of his easier jobs, and the loss of one coked-out rich boy meant nothing to him. It was everything else that had his heart pounding and his chest aching as he gasped for air.
He’d promised that he would never have sex in order to get a job done. In the past, he’d repeated it to himself when there was an attractive person in his scope, so he’d remember there was a reason they were in that position.
Some of the hitmen and women he’d come into contact with used seduction as their main tool. The problem was it only worked if your target swung the right way, and fucking someone was a great way to get attached to them.
Unless they had the whole black-widow-spider vibe going on.
It wasn’t like he’d planned on having sex. Damien was a guy, so it hadn’t even crossed his mind to be on guard. His blond hair and bloodshot eyes matched his red nose and droopy cheeks and hadn’t struck a single chord of want in his entire body. The thought of even touching him gave Li the sudden urge to wash his hands. And Li wasn’t gay, either—obviously.
It had been obvious before Henley, at least.
Henley, who had a rainbow sticker on the butt of his gun and a pink knife that Li had stashed in his truck before he’d gotten the fuck away from the scene. Henley, who was like one of those little dogs who had way too much personality for his frame so he ended up jumping on everyone in his proximity with his contagious enthusiasm. His dark hair and boyish looks hid his strength and had thrown Li so off guard.
But when Henley had made a pass at him and offered to show him to the roof, when that was exactly where Li had needed to scope out, then his rules hadn’t seemed to matter. He had been shocked speechless at Henley’s advances, but he hadn’t been disgusted. On the contrary, his cock had tingled to awareness for the first time in months.
He wasn’t sure when it had all gone wrong. One second he had been looking down into the alley to see one of Damien’s bodyguards getting head, and the next, Henley had had three fingers buried deep as he touched something that Li had never thought would be touched by another person.
But his no-sex rule, which was there to protect himself, his future and his someday family, was blown to bits. And the worst part was, he couldn’t stop thinking about it. Every moment was seared into his thoughts and body, parts of him still tingling in remembrance of Henley’s touch.
And the sex. He hadn’t even known that it could be like that. Sex with women was mostly fulfilling, and he’d thought that he’d want to catch himself a wife someday. Sex with a man had never been in the cards. Hell, it hadn’t even been in the deck.
But instead of ritualistic preparations for his upcoming hit, a cock up his ass had distracted him completely. He’d gotten sloppy, fucked up his exit and had left the pain in his ass lying on the street with a needle in his neck.
He scratched his chin at the bit of soft scruff that had started to grow. He usually kept himself completely clean-shaven, but that was just another thing that he had fucked up. That, and the hunk of hair that Henley had managed to tug out during their struggle. Li hoped he’d gotten it all, but if he hadn’t, then the cops had his DNA.
He should have just tossed Henley into the back of his truck. His basement was roomy enough to keep a hostage, and there was nobody around to hear screaming. But he refused to break another rule. He wasn’t going to kill an innocent because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And that was exactly what Henley was—innocent. He was just a bodyguard trying to protect a coked-out kid—and a pretty pathetic bodyguard, at that. He was the opposite of what a bodyguard should have been, too—short, lean and with an attitude a mile long.
Damien had been so easy to kill that Li should have sent Henley a tip as a thank you. But he wasn’t sure if Henley would take it the wrong way or not. He had seemed a little upset when he’d smashed Li into the door frame. It was just business.
