Jason Jennings is gonna be the death of me, I swear. I’m the acting sheriff of this small Texas town, and he’s gotten himself arrested—on purpose—at least three times now. Worse, he knows I’m a Daddy and isn’t exactly subtle about wanting to be my boy, despite our twenty-year age difference.
I’d love to put him over my knee, but it’s an election year, and a dangerous last-minute challenger could set the entire county back if I lose. The vote is way too close for the town to suddenly find out that I’m gay and dating the young man I’ve been putting in handcuffs for the better part of a year.
Still… he’s working so hard to put his life back together, I can only imagine how he’d bloom under my support and direction.
When Jason’s world begins to fall apart, so does my resolve. How can I abandon my boy when he needs me the most?
The Sheriff’s Troublemaker first appeared in the USA Today Bestselling Dirty Daddies PRIDE 2022 anthology and has been expanded to a 45k-word story set in the Rebel Sky Ranch series. It includes a spankable boy, a stern Daddy, and steamy times that might just set your Kindle on fire.
REVIEW:
Note: This story is part of a series and contains major spoilers for the previous books. I recommend those books as well and also recommend reading them in order 🙂
Jason and Justin Jennings were the bane of the existence of many of the characters from this series. But then they get cut off and kicked out by their homophobic family after finally coming out and things change for them. They are left fairly destitute. Justin in particular struggling with addiction and depression. He has a great deal of trouble dealing with his past behavior. Jason, the older brother of the two, is doing his best to keep things together. He’s working hard opening a business that is successful – until his father takes notice and does everything in his power to thwart him. But what he really needs is the love of a good man. That man is Patrick, the acting sheriff. He and Jason have been dancing around each other for some time. Jason continues to act up to get Patrick’s attention after he found him on a Daddy app. Jason affectionately has him under DaddySheriff in his contacts 😉 Patrick is up for election so they need to be careful. But when Justin runs completely off the rails and Jason, doing his best to help him isn’t enough, Patrick can’t stay on the sidelines any longer. Others in the community who Jason and Justin have been terrible to in the past step up for them. It’s not lost on Jason that he’s being given a second chance that he’s not sure he even deserves.
Justin finally gets the help he needs. Jason needs help too and Patrick helps him through his intensive therapy. They explore their Daddy/boy bond and it’s clear that they really do love and support each other. But when they return, there is another candidate for sheriff who definitely wants to take Patrick down. He suspects that Patrick is gay and the fact that he is black also makes Brian Buchanan smug in his assumption that he can win. But there are things that they know about Buchanan and his family that make this a dangerous game. It’s clear that Buchanan is willing to sacrifice his own family to get what he wants. Luckily enough people see through him – but it’s way to close for comfort. And it keeps Jason and Patrick on DL until after the election. Thankfully there are enough good people rooting for these former bad boys and helping them become the men they are supposed to be. Jason and Patrick can be a couple in the open and still have their fun at home being the Daddy/boy they each need.
Full confession – I am a sucker for this whole series. While Daddy/boy is not really my kink, this was very well written. Like most, I was not a fan of the Jennings brothers in the previous books. I was not sure how Kelly Fox was going to redeem them since they were pretty awful. They really did have a terrible time and they didn’t handle it well. Through the compassion of the community and the love and belief for a good man, Jason is able to turn his life around. That he and Patrick and give each other what they need in their Daddy/boy relationship was the glue that holds these two together. Very well written and believably communicated. Recommended particularly for fans of second chances, redemption arcs, Daddy/boy dynamic and this series.
