The Hardest Fall by Rheland Richmond
Connor
I thought I had it all—an awesome family… mostly. A career I kinda like, and the man of my dreams.
But then life has a way of kicking me in the teeth when I least expect it. My prince turns out to be a toad. Okay, maybe it was too much to ask him to stick around when family responsibilities take over.
Who wants a man with baggage? No one. But I’m fine on my own. Right?
Brett
Moving back to my hometown was step one. Step two was finally finding my person only he’s definitely not supposed to be my new co-worker.
I’m determined to keep Connor in the friend zone but my heart seems to have other plans. Only Connor’s been burned before. How can I prove to him that not all men run when things get tough?
Will he give me a chance to show him I’m here to stay?
All I need is a chance to prove to him that falling isn’t so hard with the right one.

I groaned. If Connor was working there, then he might just think I was stalking him. Nothing like making things any more awkward than they already were. So why are you hoping he’ll be there tonight?
Brett: It’s a work night, but I guess one beer wouldn’t hurt.
He probably wasn’t even there. Besides exposure therapy was good. I needed to be able to spend time around Connor and not think about stripping him naked and—yeah, that was definitely not helping. He’s not going to be there. You’ll go grab a drink with a friend and come back. Simple. It wasn’t like I could boycott Ray’s forever.
After showering and changing clothes, I walked through the door at Ray’s at nine o’clock. I looked around and quickly glanced at the bar. Sure enough, there he was behind the bar. Connor was busy with customers and didn’t notice me looking in his direction, which gave me time to take him in. Several customers were trying to wave him down. I felt a little bit more at ease. Perhaps he’d be too busy to even notice I was here. But you want him to notice.
I growled and looked away from him. I was a grown man, dammit.
I looked over at the table we sat at last time to find Jayson was already there. Making a beeline over to him, I no longer felt like Connor would think I was stalking him. If I was here with Jayson, that wouldn’t look weird. Right?
“Hey,” I said, grabbing the seat across from Jayson so my back was to the bar.
Jayson smiled. “Hey! I’m in love.”
“Whoa … that’s a bombshell. Love?” I asked. Those three words had practically rushed out of him like he’d been dying to say it out loud and he finally had a chance. It caught me by surprise, and then I started to laugh.
“With Marcus, I’m assuming.”
Jayson sniggered. “Of course with Marcus. Who else would I be in love with?” Taking a breath, he continued, “But I am. I feel it in my bones every time I see him. It’s probably too soon.” He shrugged. “But I guess all that crap about ‘when it’s right, you know it. I blushed just thinking about him.” Jayson was right, and he had the red cheeks to prove it.

About the Authors:
For as long as she can remember Rheland’s had her nose stuck in a book, getting lost in the world of someone else’s creation (She still does). Her love for writing came from her love for reading. She could never have one without the other.
Writing has always been a hobby and a cathartic experience for her. There are many stories lost to the never to be completed or published pile but needed to be written at the time.
She’s just a girl that loved stories so much she wrote hers.
Rheland would love to hear from her readers and learn more about Y’all. So if you get a chance… please get in touch.
