BLURB:
Hardly a day goes by without ghost hunters stomping around the house across the street in the dead of night. Hadley Mill is rumored to be stuffed to the brim with malicious spirits. Over the years, people have come from far and wide to search the crumbling mansion for signs of the afterlife while I’ve watched from my windows, hoping they don’t figure out the truth.
They’re looking in the wrong place.
Hadley Mill is not haunted and never has been.
I would know.
I’ve been dead for years.
My secrets are hidden deep within this house, away from the prying eyes of the intruders across the street. As far as I’m concerned, they can just stay over there because I don’t need them in my business.
I hadn’t counted on him though.
Landon came stumbling into my house during a rainstorm and despite knowing that he’s one of the many ghost hunters who could disrupt my peace forever, I can’t keep myself away from him. He’s handsome, clever and absolutely desperate to capture evidence of the paranormal inside Hadley Mill. Ghost hunting is his career but he’s been struggling and without proof that ghosts exist, he’s going to lose everything. The more I get to know him, the more I find myself drawn to his warmth and keeping my truth hidden is starting to wear on me.
He says he’s been looking for a ghost?
I hope he’s ready, because he’s finally found me.
REVIEW:
Ghostly Bennett did not want to be stuck in this world anymore – his reasons were gone. He wanted to cross over, tried to cross over, but he was stuck in a place where everyone but him had moved on. Landon was on a mission to find a ghost. He loved history and used it in his research, however, he couldn’t find anything paranormal about the house over the road. Then he met the shy, innocent Bennett, who had an adorable thirst for knowledge. But could they be more than friends?
Oh, my life! What a beautifully different story. When I have no idea how to describe a book, it means I haven’t read anything like it before; in this case, it was an excellent thing. I was mesmerized.
I had to think overnight, but I eventually found the words – although I doubt they will do the tale justice.
Haunting With A Ghost is told in the first person from the viewpoints of Bennett and Landon. It is wonderfully atmospheric, focused, and the world-building spans time, comparing the then to the now, physically, and emotionally.
The major difference between this and other stories (among other things) is that the ghostly Bennett thirsts for knowledge while comparing his dead life to his past. It delves into his reasoning for not crossing over to the other side. This aspect was so well written that I experienced a range of emotions and, on occasion, cried to the point of hiccups – beautiful and heartbreaking. All this was helped along by Bennett’s unique introduction, which made him immediately likable. From that moment on, Bennett was captivating, especially when he described a specific character as his ‘fairy deadmother’ – awesome.
While Bennett adds the personal touch, Landon’s part adds the intrigue as well as some heat. He’s an open-minded soul who likes to see the best in people. He can’t help himself become a teacher and more to Bennett. But, something nefarious is afoot. Plots are hatched, hurt, angst, and other forces create a page-turning experience that I’m sure I will read again.
