Into the starlit night, with your love to guide me, I go…
In a small coffee shop in the second district of Vienna, as the city and the wider world change almost beyond recognition, twelve happy years pass for three lovers. Gabriel, Florian, and Solomon manage their small business and work to support their growing family, building a legacy for the future.
Gabriel, however, is still bound by his agreement with the guardian nature spirit of Augarten. In exchange for letting Ian pass through one of her gates to become an angel, Gabriel must pay the price and step through another gate himself. Even if he tried to stay, the body Augarten created for him was not made to last, and so he must go.
If Gabriel has managed to squeeze enough spiritual work into his life, and it has carried him far enough, then when he passes through Augarten’s gate he will take the next step beyond human and become an angel himself. And if he makes it through his soul’s transfiguration, he will be able to return to his beloved men and guide them through the tumultuous decades to come.
If he has not advanced far enough spiritually and still has too much remaining karma, then he will go back into incarnation, forgetting all that he has known and loved in his beautiful and blessed life in Vienna.
The final equinox nears, and Gabriel is left with no choice but to take the leap and face his fate. If the timing is right, his lovers will lose him but gain Ian, their shared guardian angel, at the same moment. And if Gabriel can survive the journey through the afterworld, Florian and Solomon will gain a second guardian angel in him.
Eviternity, the epilogue to the Augarten series, which is best read in order, is a 58,000-word MMM urban fantasy romance about a love that spans lifetimes. It contains magical realism, cute babies who can speak to cute baby trees, a book bindery full of lost memories, and, even in the darkest times, lots of espresso.
REVIEW:
This additional book is a continuation of sorts of the previous 5 book Augarten series. The series must be read in order to make any sense 🙂
Eviternity starts fairly close to the end of Newyddian and follows our trio of Gabriel, Florian and Solomon through the new years as they move forward with their lives and their friends. The trio is fully supported by their found family of mainly other queer couples and family units. They are doting uncles to the children of their friends and continue to have a happy life.
Gabriel’s time in his tree-grown body they know is going to be shorter than a normal incarnation. But if Gabriel can master the spiritual journey and discipline, he wants to be able to aspire to the level of angel once his journey in this body is over. Then he can hopefully be there to support Florian and Solomon for the remainder of their lives in this physical plane and they can be reunited beyond this plane. All of the men are dedicated to helping Gabriel on his journey.
Well this was quite different to the other books as they timeline is quite a bit longer. As the lives of the men carry on, we see vignettes of their times together. Their grown as a trio and the love they have for each other and for their found family is lovely to see. Their interaction particularly with the children is beautiful. Gabriel’s relationship and times with his higher self are comforting. I really enjoyed this additional tale in this world. It’s a lot to take in and it’s still like nothing else I’ve read – really like a beautiful fairytale that has so many emotions and spiritual levels. Recommended for fans of this series. I don’t think the journey is over.
