A new m/m, gay, mafia, enemies to lovers, romance novel.
Harris McGuire and Dalton Gardener are both assassins utilized by the mafia. Dalton is one of the highest professionals on the totem pole, known for his precision and planning, who works for the top crime family in the area. Harris, on the other hand, is a brutal yet efficient freelancer who various mafia outfits have been known to contract. The two assassins’ paths cross on occasion and they enjoy a friendly rivalry, with Dalton teasing Harris for not ‘settling down’ to work with a single mafia family and Harris thinking that Dalton is the more stuck up and limited of the two due to the mafia’s rules which he must follow to a T.
But one day, unbeknownst to each other, they both receive peculiar assignments – to kill the other assassin. Dalton’s comes from his mafia boss, whereas Harris’ is from a strange anonymous (but wealthy) client. The two men chase each other around the city attempting to complete their jobs, each using his own skill set to the best of his ability.
But when Harris corners Dalton in his home, it’s not fighting that he has on his mind…
REVIEW:
Harris McGuire is relaxing at the assassin-friendly bar when Dalton Garderen slides next to him. They know each other for years, are even rivals at the assassin scene, but always on good terms. Both approach their work differently.
Dalton is on a short break, there’s a special assignment coming and he needs to rest, orders from the boss.
Harris is a freelance assassin and in between jobs, the next one will be a big case, he doesn’t know a thing on the forehand but has to accept the job before he’ll get any details.
Imagine their surprise when both get the same mission. Kill the other, in short term.
And that’s where the action starts. Let the hunt begin.
We can see them duck, jump, dodge, hide, race, run, get shot, and at last, get caught. Then everything changes.
It’s Dalton underneath Harris with a knife at his throat, panting and aroused.
Then the other way around, Harris panting, stuttering, and submitting to Dalton
Conclusion, they can’t kill each other, and for more than one reason. So, change of plans!
In the blurb at Amazon you can find a long list of content warnings. For me it was all quite light, all those sappy endearments, I just couldn’t take it too seriously, it was more fun than angst, two deadly assassins who are fond of each other. For me, this story was silly and ott.
Overall a short, light, fast-paced fun story, with a lot of sexual entertainment.
