A Dragon Veil Universe mpreg romance
Oldest cousin and brother dragon Zeke has resigned himself to being the one lone dragon in his family. As his brother and cousins find their mates one by one, he ignores their protests that he’ll find own love someday soon, and contents himself with caring for their growing brood of babies. As the one who’s been around the longest, Zeke has learned that he can’t always have what he desperately wants, and that he can be happy with what he has.
Gareth has never felt like he fully fit in with his pack. As the one who doesn’t shift, he’s not an outcast, but he’s definitely living on the fringes. Lately, he finds himself looking up the mountain even more than he did a a child, wondering what the seemingly ageless dragons he’s heard stories of all his life are up to. A chance meeting with a dragon named Zeke during a visit to negotiate supply routes tells Gareth that the dragons are not the horror he’s been told they are, and he can’t help his curiosity.
When a new danger threatens the very existence of his pack, Gareth starts a trek up the mountain to ask for help. With Zeke he finds more than he bargains for, but can he convince the old dragon of the mountain that neither one of them has to be the odd man out?
REVIEW:
NOTE: This is the fifth book in this series and it is much better read in order. Jumping into the story of this dragon family in the middle might be a little confusing.
Gareth is a wolf who cannot shift. His father despises him and wants him away from the pack. He’s sent to live with the Calhouns – the family who help the wolves and dragons stay hidden from the humans. Gareth is not happy though and looks longingly up the mountain because he misses the dragons – one dragon in particular. Zeke is the most beautiful creature he’s ever seen and he’s been drawn to him since the first time he laid eyes on him.
Zeke is the oldest and most crotchety of the dragons. He’s been alone forever and he’s sort of resigned himself to it. But he does feel the pull to Gareth – even though he’s a wolf and not a dragon. Isn’t he? When Gareth can’t take it any more and comes up the mountain, Zeke moves him in with him. They get along famously – although they are constantly interrupted by children and the other dragons and their mates 😉
Gareth vows to not be a burden. He loves helping out with the children and his help is very welcome as the dragon clan continues to grown with more children on the way. Zeke is worried that he will ruin the young man’s life – after all he is an old an grumpy dragon. But everyone else can see that Gareth and Zeke adore each other. And mate seems to be the right word for what they are feeling.
Zeke is determined to make Gareth happy and content. He knows taking care of the children is a lot and Gareth needs something else of his own with Zeke is happy to provide in the way of time and space so his own hobby. Gareth is touched and grateful and it’s clear that Zeke love him even though he’s not a dragon 😉 But there are a more babies and some trouble with Gareth’s father to contend with. Zeke and Gareth will not be denied however.
This I think is my favorite of this series. I kept waiting for Zeke to get his mate! Gareth was adorable and unsure. Zeke was worried and protective. Together they just fit. The whole dragon clan was amazing as usual. The kids, the familiars, the mates, the animals – it all just kept getting better and better. I knew Gareth was meant to be with Zeke and the twist was sweet. I also appreciated the glimpse behind the veil and the rest of the beloved side characters make their presence known in this one too. Sad this series is over, but hopefully there will be more in another spinoff series 🙂 If you’re a fan of dragons, mates, cute kids and smexy times, you’ll enjoy this one. Recommended.
