REVIEW:
I love that when I start one of these multi-author series I get to experience and find new-to-me authors that just click. Blake Allwood is just that author this go round and I can’t wait to read more by him.
Hayden Koal has had his life dictated and planned to the minute every since his parents took him from his home with his beloved grandfather in the corn fields of Iowa and thrust him into Hollywood to fund their lives. After winning American Icon he has been their pop star/puppet on their and his über controlling manager’s strings. When one too many gay bashing/homophobic slurs comes out of manager Jason’s mouth he’s had it. Had it being pranced around like the 14 year old pop star he was ten years ago. Had it with having to his his sexuality for fear he will lose his teenybopper fans. Had it will being micromanaged every single moment of his life. He cut strings with his money-grabbing parents years ago but now this latest slur means it’s time to part with the man who has been his only friend and father figure. When Hayden accidentally runs into the gorgeous young man that he had a brief encounter with several years before at Rocktoberfest he has to do something to get to know him. But Erik Anderson isn’t looking for a once-time hookup. When Hayden continues to pursue him Erik gives in to his lifelong celebrity crush. But can a out and proud man play behind closed doors with his closeted idol?
I really, really liked this book. I loved that Erik came into Hayden’s life right when he started standing up for what he wanted on both his personal and professional life. Hayden finally was taking charge and knew that included getting to know the shy Erik.
Their romance was an adventure from the start and I was crushed when one simple mistake/omission caused both men such heartache. You couldn’t help but want these two fledgling loves to make it. And Hayden may have been in his mid twenties but he had basically been sheltered when not preforming and never allowed to develop the social skills to navigate real relationships, either with Erik or his new found friends in his new band. He never had those experiences to work off before. Yes he was the consummate performer but he really was just Jason’s puppet all those years. Now he was finally being allowed to stretch his wings for the first time and mistakes were bound to happen.
I know this is part of the Road to Rocktoberfest series but I’m kinda hoping that there might be a follow up book now that Hayden and Erik are learning how to navigate a real and lasting relationship. I know it’s not out of the realm of possibilities because other series by other authors have materialized since last years trip there.🤞This has been a wonderful trip on that road and I truly enjoyed it.
