Book Description
His heart has always belonged to the man he loves—a modern-day actor?
Thutmose knew from the moment he purchased the six-carat ruby that he had something special. So much so, he refused to turn the gem over to the Pharaoh. His punishment for his disobedience? Death and a curse. He shall wear the Heart of Egypt for eternity.
Second chances aren’t permitted—until Aiden touches his coffin.
Aiden Cory, star of the show Hunters, has no idea he’s stumbled on a mummy or the chance at finding true love. When he meets Thut, he’s head-over-heels. He doesn’t know about the Heart of Egypt, but he knows he’s attracted to Thut. There’s the minor problem of Thut being a mummy.
Can modern love save Thut from an ancient curse?
Thutmose sat up and drank in the view of the space around him. He hadn’t seen light in twenty-five-hundred years. His eyes burned from the brightness, but he didn’t mind. He was alive—at least as alive as he could be after being entombed for centuries.
A man rushed up to him and slashed his hands through the air. “Cut. Cut! We need to reset this. Wonderful job.”
Thutmose wasn’t sure what he’d done, but he was free, so that pleased him. He spied the man who’d spoken to him while he’d been in the coffin. What a pretty man, too. Almost as beautiful as Azizi. He sucked in a ragged breath, then paused. He’d been able to breathe. That surely meant he wasn’t dead.
He turned his attention to the man in the strange clothing. This person wasn’t anything like Azizi. Tall, slender, but broad in the shoulder and strong. When he looked at Thutmose, he smiled, and the bitterness within Thutmose melted. At the same time, though, a burning started in his chest. He glanced down at his skin. A red mark appeared where his heart should be—almost as if he’d been tattooed. The redness reminded him of the gem, but it wasn’t where he’d left it. He’d swallowed the ruby to ensure no one else would get it. Was he truly wearing the gem on his skin?
He gazed at the man with the strange clothing. His heart wanted this man. He wasn’t sure why, but he very much wanted to know him. He gazed into his eyes. He’d never seen eyes that blue before and the man had such thick lashes. When he smiled, he warmed Thutmose’s being. Excitement filled his body and he wanted to touch him.
“Hey,” the man said as he joined Thutmose at the coffin. “Great job. You even had me believing you’re a real mummy. I don’t know how your shit fell away, but it looked fantastic.”
Shit? This was a word he didn’t know. He’d picked up various languages while being locked in the tomb, but this word escaped him.
“Hey, you don’t have to be so quiet. I won’t bite this time.” The man offered his hand. “Come on. You can’t be filming naked either. There are ladies present.”
Naked? He glanced down at himself. He wasn’t wearing any clothes. Probably on account of the Pharaoh trying to find the gem. He’d been stripped and mummified without much concern for his shell.
“Want some help getting out of there? Tate?” The man dipped his head. “Is this your way of teasing and punishing me? I’m sorry I never called. It wasn’t my best move, but I got busy.”
He nodded, then accepted the man’s hand.
“Want to get me a robe?” The guy snapped his fingers. “Someone?”
“Here, Aiden.” The woman frowned. “You’d think you’re the first one to ever shield us from seeing a naked body. You tend to stroll around naked.” She handed him a garment. “At least he’s cute.” She swept her gaze over him and grinned. “Very nice.”
Thutmose’s skin sizzled like he’d been in the sun for too long. Did she appreciate his form, too? She seemed to, but he wasn’t interested in her. He wanted the man. Aiden? He liked that name. It suited this man.
“Come on. This was our thing. It didn’t last long, but it was ours.” Aiden accepted the garment, then draped it around Thutmose’s shoulders. As he touched Thutmose, his smile increased. He slid his hands along Thutmose’s arms in a lover’s caress.
Thutmose slid his arms through the sleeves of the silky fabric, then allowed Aiden to help him out of the coffin. He wanted to hold this man’s hand for a lot longer than for a moment of stability. Part of him wanted to yank Aiden aside and kiss him. He wanted to tell him about the curse, the gem and the magic. Would Aiden believe him?
“Hi.” Another man rushed into the room. “Keep those bindings…costume wants them back. Is there anything else in there? Any packages? Bundles? We need to search the box.”
Thutmose recognized this voice—the man who’d purchased his coffin and kept mentioning the Heart of Egypt. He didn’t like this man at all. Anyone who would do something so underhanded as steal a coffin or purchase a mummy wasn’t someone he wanted to know. This was the man wanting the gem. Too bad. He’d never find it, not that it was there to be found.
“We need to reset for the next scene. You’ve got half an hour. Don’t forget your lines,” a man with a sheaf of papers said. “I want to adjust these lights.”
Aiden held Thutmose’s hand. “Come on. We’ll rest in my trailer. You can share with me.”
He wasn’t sure what a trailer was, but he wanted to follow Aiden and he longed to share things with him. He waited until they were in the quiet of the small house on wheels. That’s when he decided to speak. “Hello.”
“Hi.” Aiden grinned. “You’re good at playing hard to get.” He smiled again and the dimple in his cheek deepened.
“Me?” He wasn’t playing at anything. “I’m sorry?” What did hard to get mean? Didn’t matter. He wanted to make Aiden smile some more because he loved men with dimples.
“I’m the one who should be sorry. I ghosted you for the last year. It wasn’t cool, but I didn’t forget about you.” Aiden laced his fingers with Thutmose’s and captured him against the door. “Did you think about me?”
