Montana Girard is getting by, day to day, since the death of his husband two years ago. Although he’s raising their three daughters alone and keeping busy with his florist shop it’s not enough to fill the empty space in his heart. Then he meets Rohan Pittman, an attractive venue owner, and his life is thrown off-kilter. Suddenly, feelings he thought he’d never experience again are stirring to life. But Montana’s had his one true love and is in no mood to try for second-best.
Rohan Pittman is enamored by everything about the big, green-eyed man who showed up delivering flowers. Each facet he discovers, from Montana’s passion for his work to the three girls he’s raising, fit Rohan and the life he’s dreaming of down to the letter.
But Montana’s still grieving his husband, and Rohan’s not sure he can compete with a memory. When tragedy strikes and Montana needs help, Rohan’s all too eager to step in and save the day. Gratitude isn’t love, though. It’ll take risk, effort, and pain for Montana to move beyond the specter of his lost love, and everything Rohan can do to encourage him may not be enough.
A sweet, grumpy/sunshine, care-taking with a HEA story.
Content Warning: Themes of grief and dealing with loss. Transphobic behavior from minor characters. Abusive behavior from former in-laws.
REVIEW:
How I never had read this amazing author before this series is beyond me but she is definitely a 1-click author for me now. I love her books 💕
Montana just puts one foot in front of the other as he trudged through life now that his true love, his husband Richie, passed two years ago. Now he takes care of their three amazing girls and helps Tennessee, his twin brother, keep their flower shop afloat. When their delivery driver suddenly quits he has no choice but to pick up the slack and jump in to deliver the flowers ordered. In a chance meeting, while delivering wedding flowers to Pittman House, he meets the gorgeous Rohan Pittman. Fast forward to grocery shopping with his girls and another chance encounter leads to lunch and a blooming friendship. When Montana suffers a freak accident Rohan rushes in to help out. The brassy, confident caretaker takes over in his usual steamroller style. But can Montana let his dead husband go enough to let love bloom between these two men?
There is obvious chemistry the moment these two shake hands and it never stopped. But poor Montana was so trapped in his head and heart over the loss of his first love Richie. Rohan knew he had his work cut out for him but he could see the end game and wanted what he saw fiercely. But Rohan can tend to come on a little too strong and that was scary for the reluctant Montana.
I loved the girls and the story behind their names was especially precious. As was how quickly and totally Rohan fell for his girls. There was never any doubt how protective Montana was of his precious daughter. Or how much he treasured and loved them. But Rohan’s immediate love and acceptance was the icing.
This was a slow burn to a hard fought HEA for these men. Rohan had an upward battle to get Montana to lower the thick walls he had carefully erected around his fragile heart. He may have been a mountain of a man but his heart was all warm and loving once he allowed love to bloom again. And I especially loved that the girls were an important and key component to their story. Yes Rohan fell in love with Montana but he also fell completely for his girls as well.
Although the first story isn’t necessarily needed to read this book (there is a quick mention of Carmichael-Kim wedding and Dr. Kim is the ER doctor that treated Montana) why would you ever miss an opportunity to enjoy this entire series. Plus the first book is key in the next two books where those characters were introduced. I highly recommend this heart tugging book that will get you in the feels and won’t let go. Once you start you won’t want to stop.
