About Last Night by Aimee Nicole Walker
The bicurious cop and his sharp-dressed man…
Detective Christopher “Topher” Carnegie is unlucky in love. He either tries too hard, doesn’t try hard enough, or hasn’t found the right person yet. But recently, he’s started seeing Julian Fine, his sister’s best friend, in a new light. If there’s one thing a fabulous tailor knows, it’s how to take a person’s measure. Julian recognizes a straight man when he sees one, but that doesn’t stop him from falling head over heels for the unattainable man.
Just a few short days and one shared bed…
When a white lie backs Julian into a corner, Topher steps in to save the day. He’s worked plenty of undercover assignments before, but pretending to be Julian’s boyfriend during a family wedding might be his most dangerous mission yet. Julian challenges everything Christopher knows about himself, and soon, reaching for each other feels as natural as breathing. But can their newfound feelings survive the real-world challenges they face? There’s only one way to find out.

I spied Julian jogging shirtless on the treadmill and would’ve turned right around if he hadn’t seen me in the mirrored wall in front of him. My gaze drifted down his back to land on his taut ass. Those had to be the shortest and tightest shorts I’d ever seen on a man. Julian’s pace slowed to a brisk walk, and I glanced back up and met his gaze in the mirror again. He crooked his finger at me, and I headed over to him. Julian slowed his pace again to cool down when I stopped by his treadmill.
“Are we okay?” Julian asked.
“What?”
“You and I?” he said, gesturing back and forth between us. “Are we okay?”
I scrunched up my face. “Why wouldn’t we be?”
Julian stopped the treadmill and turned to face me. Rivulets of sweat ran down his perfectly toned chest and ripped abdomen. Julian was completely smooth where I was hairy. I trimmed my chest hair and often shaved my stomach because my girlfriends had preferred it that way, but maybe I should consider buzzing it all off. Julian didn’t show the front of his chest on his videos much. He saved that for the moments when he put on his creations. And lord, he looked sexier putting clothes on than most people looked taking them off.
“You were about to bolt,” Julian said, jerking my gaze back to his face. He had the prettiest green eyes I’d ever seen—a hunter-green rim with pale green irises and yellow striations around his pupils. His dark, curly hair was wet from sweating and plastered to his forehead. I knew if I brushed the locks away, there’d be a frown line to match the downturn of his full lips.
“Was not,” I replied childishly.
“Were too.” He took a deep breath. “There’s this new…tension between us. It’s never been there before, so I can’t help wondering if I said too much or took my flirting too far.”
“No.”
“Then what’s wrong?” Julian pressed.
Wrong wasn’t the right word, but my thoughts and feelings were jumbled, leaving me tongue-tied. I wanted to tell Julian he was beautiful and that I thought about touching him a lot. I yearned to confess my fascination with his skin and the desire to know if it felt as soft as it looked. And would his mouth be as wicked as he promised? What would Julian say if I told him the fantasy version of him makes me come harder than any actual encounter I’ve had?
I wouldn’t say or do any of those things, though, because, even without the promise I’d made to Harper, I’d never do or say anything to hurt Julian. But I did step a little closer and inhale a little deeper, breathing in the scent of his sweat and soap. “I guess I’m just figuring some things out.”
“Oh,” Julian said breathlessly. That spark of awareness arced between us again. “Let me know if I can help in any way.”
“You’ll be the first to know,” I said with a wink, then left him staring after me with his lips parted and cheeks flushed.
