Why can’t life give him a break?
Five years ago, Jerry Wilkerson was running with a biker gang, making mistake after mistake, till he ended up in the hospital with a gunshot wound, facing criminal charges for drug distribution. On top of everything, he’d fallen in love with the narcotics agent who took them all down. Or rather, with Cyrus Cooper, the man that agent pretended to be.
Making a deal with the Southeastern Narcotics Bureau kept Jerry out of jail, sending him undercover as Brody Jenson, a petty criminal able to get into places other agents can’t. He’s satisfied with his life—or would be if he wasn’t still longing for someone who never existed.
Then a man steps out of his dreams and into his life, who’s everything Jerry ever wanted.
Except for the part where Jerry might have to arrest him.
While this book features characters from the Diversion series, it is a standalone.
REVIEW:
When we last saw Jerry, he was recuperating from a gunshot wound and was going to testify against the biker gang that his secret crush, Agent Bo Schollenberger, aka Cyrus Cooper, Bo’s undercover identity. Five years later, he’s not working undercover for the same agency. He’s starting at the bottom, working small case, getting some of the bad guys off the street and crack an opioid distribution ring. He’s lonely but he’s trying to figure out his future. Being his Brody Jensen character, his undercover persona, isn’t conducive to making friends or meeting somebody to take his mind off the very much married Bo.
Enter Nico. Brody/Jerry isn’t sure what to make of him. Their chemistry is smoking from the first encounter after some time discreetly watching each other. But Jerry isn’t sure who this Nico really is. And what he wants? Well Jerry isn’t sure. But as they spend more time together, they each reveal more of this pasts. As they share more, the relationship progresses from the casual/work to more. And of course there is lots of work to be done – if Jerry, Nico and the SNB can make it happen!
What a wonderful present for those of us who have been missing Bo and Lucky and the cast of characters of Eden Winters Diversion series – a personal favorite of mine. As usual, this book bring all of the fund of the previous series. The new drug world mystery and action along with the addition of NEW snarky characters make this a rollicking ride. The scorching heat Nico and Jerry bring to this story along with the suspense, danger and action, kept me engaged from the opening pages to the end. We also get to revisit our favorite characters from the past series which I absolutely loved. One of the things I most love about Eden Winters writing is that I always learn something new – and she keeps that going here. And I really hope there is more Jerry and Nico in the future. Wonderful story set in a familiar and favorite universe that I hope we get to visit again and again and again. Highly recommended!
