What happens when fate intertwines shifters from land and sea? When Jonah Steele hung a flyer in the local coffee shop advertising his services as a housekeeper, he didn’t expect the town’s hot doctor to hire him on the spot. He definitely didn’t think he’d still be working for the mysterious older alpha two years later. But something about Dr. Pictou keeps Jonah returning to the big house on the cliff, a bone-deep longing he can’t explain—and recently, it’s been making Jonah crave the good doctor in ways he shouldn’t.
Dr. Edwin Pictou couldn’t say why he hired the young omega lynx to clean his house, but Jonah had ensnared him at first sight, and now, even though he really doesn’t need a housekeeper, the thought of letting Jonah go is unsettling. When Edwin comes home to find the omega—who he’s
started to think of as his own—in heat, he realizes there is more at play than he first thought. Fate has intervened, and Edwin has no intention of ever letting Jonah go again.
REVIEW:
I enjoyed this book; it was a fun read. I always liked fated mates that either don’t recognise the bond or fight against it and this was a mixture of both.
Jonah finds himself working for Edwin, it was supposed to just be a stop gap arrangement while he got his business off the ground, but there is something about Edwin that keeps him coming back. Edwin is rarely at home but the comfort Jonah finds in his space, he recognises his crush on the hot older man but thinks he’s not good enough for the Doctor, who he thinks would never find him attractive.
Edwin also feels the pull towards Jonah, but thinks he’s too old, to set in his way for the younger man. He can’t bear the thought of Jonah not coming to his house to clean and tries to avoid him, but his delicious scent fills the house.
The human side of both discounts what is obvious to their animal sides, with their human side giving a whole heap of reasons, excuses about why they can’t be together which keeps them apart for 2 long years.
This supposed unrequited longing comes to a unexpected halt when Jonah goes into heat and heads straight to Edwin, he doesn’t know why but knows he needs to be there. Nature takes it course and finally the scales fall off their eyes and they realise they are Mates.
I enjoyed that once they finally realised they were mates there was no more fighting against it, both fully embraced it, though Jonah had some doubts about how it would work out.
Jonah was a delight a loving and caring man who is prepared to upend his life to be with his mate. His interactions with his roommate who was suffering from not being part of a pack, was so kind, he worried so much about him and the pure joy that he felt when Edwin stepped up to help meant so much.
Edwin was so sweet and loving. He put Jonah firmly at the centre of his life and reached out to his friend to help them, he altered his home to ensure it was Jonah’s home as well but the kindness thing of all was to offer Jonah’s room-mate a place with them.
I enjoyed all the side characters, both their friends and Jonah’s family, they added depth and richness to the book and despite their initial misgivings Jonah’s family eventually came around. It is a sweet and tender book with no angst just a lovely romantic love story.
