AUTHOR: Layla Dorine
PUBLISHER: NineStar Press
LENGTH: 339 pages
RELEASE DATE: October 4, 2022
BLURB:
The fates say all three of them belong together, like broken pieces of carnival glass just itching for a bit of glue, and the fates are never wrong, are they? Graham doesn’t think so, but convincing Zane and Cormac of that might take words never covered in his anatomy books.
One season: that’s the longest Zane stays anywhere. When the snow thaws and the pass is clear, he and his band will limp out of town in their battered RV, leaving Graham and his bruised heart behind, unless he can find a way to convince Zane to take a chance on something no one has ever taken the time to explain to him.
Bond marks might be a desire for some wolves, but for Zane, they mean the end of the only family he’s ever known. On stage, he’s not the pup some angry wolf tossed out an open window, he’s Z—wild, charismatic, nymphomaniac lead singer of Howling Rain. His aftershow activities are what put the bond marks on his wrists in the first place, much to the dismay of his bandmates who fear that those other kinds of mates will be the end of the success they’ve found together.
It’s up to Graham to teach them all that compromise and understanding are a big part of the mating process, and that their found families can be expanded to fit a couple more wolves. After all, the attraction is there, and in those soft, cuddly moments where Z fades and Zane emerges, all their little wolf wants is cuddles, warm blankets, and lots of love.
REVIEW:
It seems like I have been waiting forever but sooooo worth the wait!
Zane, known as Z on stage, is the Lead Singer of Howling Rain. When the snow flies the band makes there trek back to Comet Lake and Zane’s dad Councilor Brooks Hagen to settle in for the winter. His dad received him from a life that was so awful and gave him the home and love he deserved. When playing at the local bar Z hooks up, like he always does after a show, with the gorgeous Graham not knowing that he had met his second mate. He had been ignoring the mate lines on his other wrist since Baltimore. When he tries to ignore these he suddenly gets I’ll but his band mate has a plan to make him forget the sexy doctor. That all goes to hell and luckily their mating bond allowed Graham to come rescue him. All starts to settle down until the local MC Howling Devils are called back to town to help with the bear attacks. That brings on member that will cause even more problems but can Zane handle anything more???
I loved that we discovered that Zane had to distinctly different personas. Z was the confident, outgoing lead singer and a bit of a nymphomaniac. Zane was the shy pup that had literally been thrown away by his father because he was too much of a bother and a runt. Zane deserved to be loved and protected and Graham set out to do just that. But he was in for an upward battle getting Zane to trust him and his band members to accept him. Then, when all was finally starting to settle down and good happening, Cormac burst onto the scene. I wasn’t totally sure that author Layla Dorine could pull this all together but boy did she ever. When those men finally got over all their hurts and learned to lean on each other and trust it was so beautiful.
I will say that, even though we got to see these men make it work I kind felt like I was teetering on a cliff at the end. I need to know how Zane’s health holds up. I need to have Tobias and Emery work out what is going on. I get that what Emery did was really crappy and dangerous. But I also get that the guys in the band all loved Zane in their own unique way. They all were forged together as misfits and outcast that no one wanted and disturbing that frail bond was scary. Add in the fact that none of them had ever been taught about things like fated/bonded mates and that made it even scarier. I am really hoping that we are going to get all these guys stories. Plus I hope we get what seems to be blooming between Zane’s dad Brooks and his recently discovered uncle JD. But I really, really want to know what happens between Cormac and his MC. I am hoping that they see that he was under great stress from his broken bond and made seriously wrong decisions. I know MC’s are usually not forgiving but he really needs his guys in his life. Just as much as he needs his mates and Zane needs his band.
I know that you could possibly read this as a stand alone but why when this series is so good. It was nice to get some glimpses of some old favorites while getting to know a whole slew of new players. This a great book and series that I love and highly recommend.
