Remember not to get drunk married to your best friend. It’s not rocket science.
Stefan
It was supposed to be a fun weekend trip with all my friends. The next thing I know, a splitting headache is waking me up on a plane to who knows where and there’s a ring on my finger.
What?!
Next to me is Marco, my best friend in the world, my favorite person, and… My husband? His ring matches mine and the marriage certificate in my handbag definitely has both our names on it.
But this is ridiculous. I’ve seen a marriage go sideways; I’ve seen my parents destroy each other with hatred. And I swore never to be like them. Never marry, never fall in love. Especially not to the best guy ever because he doesn’t deserve to get hurt like that.
Marco and I have a perfectly functional arrangement. We do whatever we feel like, but we never ever become boyfriends.
It’s just safer to separate a relationship from having fun with each other.
And, as we find ourselves on a romantic – and fake – honeymoon, I start to ask myself: have we been dating all along?
Marco
Stefan made me promise never to fall in love with him. And the thing about me is that I always keep a promise. We have a deal; we fool around, but we don’t let our feelings get involved. And it’s better that way.
Stefan doesn’t believe in happy endings and I don’t deserve him. Or anyone. I’d already lucked out once in my life when a wealthy family adopted me. How much more could I ask for?
Except, having to spend a week with him in the most romantic place on the planet is making all the lines blurry. Are we just messing around like we always do or is there something more? Is one week enough to convince Stefan that not all relationships end in flames?
And is a week enough to convince myself that I should love myself before letting someone else love me, too?
The more I think, the more I see: this marriage is a total joke.
REVIEW:
I have been looking forward to the unfolding of the story behind the closeness of Stefan and Marco. In the previous books, we can see how close they really are, to the point where their own friends would tease them “to get it on already, etc.”
Finally in this 5th instalment of the series, The Accidental Honeymoon Catastrophe, we will finally learn who they truly are, what they truly are to each other, aside from being really best friends.
This series has been truly amazing! I love these “Fuckboys” so much! They are smart young men who have been misunderstood ever since because of where they come from. Where people think they are shallow and privileged, they couldn’t be more wrong because these young men are anything but. They are loving, helpful and always willing to risk life and limb for their friends and for those they think need help. You just need to get to really know them.
Stefan was the first friend Marco made when he transferred school. His adopted parents wanted him to have the best experience in school, after what he had been through when he was in foster care. They wanted him to have the best. They love him so much and Marco has always been grateful and relieved, at the same time, that they feel that way for him. But he always has this fear inside that if he doesn’t follow or behave, that he will be returned back or discarded like the “nothing” he was when he was still in foster care. But his parents truly do love him and deep down he knows that too. He is very lucky to have been adopted at a late age.
Although Stefan comes from a rich family, his family life was miserable what with his parents constantly fighting until they divorced in which turn, they started competing for their son’s affection by constantly upping each other when it comes to vacations or gifts that they give him. This resulted in Stefan swearing off getting married and getting into relationships. So when he and Marco started getting to know each other better he told Marco about his family life and what he is most afraid of. But more often than not their closeness is misconstrued as being together or being a couple. Even their friends think that and let’s be honest, hope that it is true.
When the group of friends decided to go to Vegas for some R&R, they made friends with a couple who decided to get married over there. Dayton, one of their closest friends, decided to sponsor their wedding, Stefan’s and Marco’s that is! With the promise of a paid vacation at a resort, a honeymoon resort, Stefan and Marco agreed. They thought, what could go wrong since they were already secretly hooking up (instead of going out and looking for hookups, why not with each other) but with no feelings involve, everything will be fine. But what happens is that their real feelings for each other surface more clearly, how deeply they are into each other already all these years, they just convinced themselves that they are just best friends. For one is afraid of relationships and the other is afraid of losing the only best friend he ever wanted.
Stefan and Marco’s story is beautiful! They are beautiful! Just like you and me, they have fears and insecurities. Even if they come from really well-off families, their problems are basically the same as yours and mine. They are young men who are just trying to find their own niche in this world. And just like you and me, I am rooting for these boys’ Happily Ever After!
Congratulations and thank you Mr. Hayden Hall for Stefan and Marco’s love story! I can’t wait for more.
