BLURB:
A visit to his hometown brings him face-to-face with his ex-boyfriend. Will it mean renewed heartbreak or a second chance at love?
Robyn Heath has four days of visiting his family, riding horses, and blessed escape from his demanding job. When he left Pickleville all those years ago, he’d never thought it would become the best place for a little rest and relaxation, but it was everything he needed.
Until Caden Flynn shows up.
He’d thought he recovered from getting ghosted by the love of his life, but old wounds resurface. Relaxation turns into Caden’s near-constant presence.
And another thing, how did his ex get hotter? It doesn’t seem fair.
From the author of the Rainbow Awards honorably mentioned, The Journey of Jimini Renn and the Saint Lakes Series comes book eight in the Pickleville Series. The book features a sailor coming home from war to reignite an old flame, and a once-bitten-twice-shy paramedic.
Unrelenting Feelings has been rewrite and edited. It contains additional content.
REVIEW:
Note: This is a rerelease with additional content from the original published in 2015. It’s part of a larger series and has spoilers for previous books, but can be read as a standalone.
Robyn is a young guy who falls hard for his first love in his small hometown of Pickleville. When that guy leaves him behind and breaks all contact, Robyn is crushed, but he gets on with his life—moves to the closest city and gets a job as a paramedic. He has good friends, especially his work partner Mike, and comes home every once in a while to visit his family.
Then Caden, the guy who left him for navy without a word, comes back. He’s been doing submarine duty and has wounded and is not going back. He regrets what he did with Robyn by just leaving and not even properly breaking up, but he’s not sure how to get Robyn to even talk to him now after a five year absence.
Robyn has tried to convincen himself that he’s over Caden…that is until he sees him again and realizes that’s just a lie he’s been telling himself for years. The truth is, he’ll probably never really get over Caden despite how badly he was treated with the ghosting. Caden desperately wants to make thinks right with Robyn and recognizes what an idiot he was in the past. He struggles with just exactly how to do that.
Caden finally settles on trying to get to know Robyn again after so much time has passed – like nearly a quarter of their lives—these guys are young and got together in high school. He really wants to see if they can maybe try to start over. There are a lot of protective folks in town including his family that don’t want to see Robyn hurt again, so it’s not just Robyn that Caden has to convince. He does have his work cut out for him 😉
This is still a rather short story that covers quite a bit of ground. There are a lot of other gay couples in this town and they all have their stories told in the previous books in the series. I liked the way Robyn and Caden reacted to each other when they were reunited, as it seemed pretty realistic to me. I was kind of surprised that Robyn didn’t punished Caden a bit more I think and made him grovel pretty hard for a second chance. I liked the other couples and characters in the story, especially Robyn’s best friend, Mike, and his dads, Jaron and Travis. Caden’s brothers are also integral to the story, and I’m interested in reading more about them. There is nothing earthshaing in this book, but it’s an enjoyable story of getting a second chance to make things right and getting an HEA. Recommended for fans of second chance stories especially.
