Can a smile heal a broken heart?
Silas is mourning the loss of his wife. Every day, he is going through the motions and barely managing to keep the excruciating pain from overtaking his life. There is precisely one ray of sunshine in his days — Kai — the smiley, awkward barista at Starbucks. For some reason, Silas finds comfort in being around Kai and soaks up as much light as this sweet boy could give him.
For the short time Kai has worked at Starbucks, he has secretly watched one man from afar, hoping that one day he would notice him back. He looks all mature, business-like, and always sad. One day Kai finally gets the chance to speak to him. And this is where their story begins.
Will Silas be able to let go of the past and start fresh? And will Kai be able to heal the gloomy man with his smiles?
REVIEW:
Oh, this was a delightful read, I started with no expectations, and the course of the story just blew me away. It had everything for a wonderful read, fun, hurt comfort, silliness, mild daddy/boy dynamic, and even some angst. It was just great. Mind the trigger warnings: grief, sexual assault!
Silas is a widower, he’s sad and not living. The only daily light in his life is the friendly welcoming smile from the barista. It’s soothing for his soul.
Kai is the sweetest guy and the gorgeous older man who comes every day for a coffee makes him stumble and say awkward things. He’s somewhat head over heels.
Silas gifs Kai confusing signs, but at some point, they are having a date.
So far so good, only…. It isn’t as easy as it sounds, because Silas is still mourning and Kai has other things going on in his life.
I can’t really tell much without spoiling, so I’ll only say, this story has much more different content than I could have imagined, for example, the narrative around Silas’ work, but there is much much more. Believe me, it’s all super entertaining.
This narrative has delicious sexy moments, the hurt comfort was palpable and not only coming from grief, there’s also silly humor and banter, and also heavier moments, there are amazing friends to find, it’s emotional and altogether just a great read, all engagingly, entertainingly written with a good vibe.
