Rafe Carrera hasn’t seen his Uncle Mack since he was a kid, so when he inherits his ranch, it throws him like a bucking horse. He’s been on his own for a long time. Now suddenly everyone wants to be his friend… or at least get friendly enough to have a chance in buying the ranch.
Russell Banion’s family may own a mega-ranch in Telluride, but Russell made his own way developing software. He misses his friend Mack, and purchasing the ranch will help him preserve Mack’s legacy—and protect his own interests. It’s a win-win. Besides, spending time with Rafe, trying to soften him up, isn’t exactly a hardship. Soon Russell realizes he’ll be more upset if Rafe does decide to leave.
But Rafe isn’t sure he wants to sell. To others in the valley, his land is worth more than just dollars and cents, and they’ll do anything to get it. With Russell’s support, Rafe will have to decide if some things—like real friendship, neighborliness, and even love—mean more than money.
REVIEW:
A very interesting read that kept me riveted to the book.
Rafe Carreta hasn’t had it easy. He hasn’t every since is good-for-nothing ultra religious, homophobic parents tossed him out the moment he revealed his true sexuality. He has fought hard for every single thing he has. Fresh off winning the Professional Bull Riding (PBR) World Championship he is approached by his Uncle Mack’s lawyer and shares that his uncle has passed and he has inherited all his uncle’s possessions…including his ranch in Telluride, Colorado that Rafe spent years going to visit until his uncle got sick when he was 12. Things get interesting when he meets the lawyer at the ranch days later. Turns out his ranch is highly sought after by several neighbors but Rafe may have finally found a
place to call home.
I know that Russell and Rafe’s first meet-up didn’t go as smoothly as Russell would have liked. But I’m thankful he showed his true side to Rafe soon after. Mack had been his good friend and mentor when he was trying to figure his life out. It was only proper that both men, who had been hurt badly by ones they loved and trusted, would find solace and true love with each other. They both had loved Mack and them together and living the life he wasn’t allowed seemed fitting.
Although these two men have scorching chemistry don’t expect a lot of graphic sex. Their live shown through even before they even realized it. I found it comforting that each man stood on his own but learned to trust and lean on the other when it was needed.
I really loved that Rafe, along with Russell’s help, went in search of his uncle’s life and memories. It was obvious that Mack loved his nephew and even though he had been banned from his life he still kept track of him. Heck, he inspired the man that Rafe became! I also loved how he became a friend and mentor to young Russell growing up. It was obvious that he was a good friend.
I really loved that Russell’s dad Elliott took to Rafe immediately. And he showed Rafe what a true, loving parent was suppose to be like. He also was a huge supporter of Russell and it was plain as day the love between father and son.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. It was a great book that gave me the warm fuzzies I need.
