REVIEW:
A different and interesting spin on Wolf Packs in a trilogy.
Luca Bassani is the perfect match donor to keep his Pack Alpha, Zander Kingston, alive and thriving against TSD (The Slow Death). TSD is a debilitating and, if left untreated, deadly disease that is ravishing the Four Packs (North, East, South and West) of wolves. The only treatment for this crippling disease is wolf-to-wolf direct transfusion with an identical match. This is why it is so important to keep not only Zander and his mate, Marrok (leading researcher for TSD) safe but also Luca, who selflessly has devoted his time and blood to keeping his pack Alpha Zander alive and able to lead. When a known threat to the Eastern pack is made it is the pack enforcers job is to ensure their alpha’s safety which includes Luca, his blood match. But when Diesel is assigned to protect Luca he knows immediately that there is more to protecting Luca than just being Zander’s donor. His wolf immediately recognizes who Luca is… his fated mate!!!
I enjoyed this entire series. From Marrok’s drive to find a cure for the deadly disease that is decimating their packs to his and Zander’s match. And the race to help their friend Grady find a match with his rare blood type that lead to his recovery and finding his fated mate with his donor Max. I also loved that they found their fated mates in other packs. And that Zander and Marrok were so forward thinking.
Now we get the story behind Luca, who stepped forward to save Zander’s life as his perfect match. Where the other two books had the wolves finding their fated mates in other packs, which went against old traditions and caused major controversy within the other packs, Luca found his through the enforcer assigned to protect him, Diesel whom was from his own pack. I did like that even though Diesel was this big, brawny tough enforcer it was little meek and shy Luca that took the lead in their mating!
While I really loved this series but was really disappointed with this final book’s ending. I was saddened in how rushed the book and series felt in the end. Marrok devoted his career, along side his grandfather’s work, to getting a registry for TSD up and going along with a cure. It was a major theme in all three books. I appreciated that this book’s major theme was Luca and Diesel’s love story however the common thread in all these books was TSD and the race to the cure. I felt that, even though the epilogue covered everything (including a wonderful conclusion to Zander and Marrok’s HEA and resolution to the West situation) I truly felt it deserved more than the one short epilogue chapter. To much was hurried along with short passing remarks. I felt the registry, the TSD cure solution and the bonding of packs to be able to finally be friendly and supportive of each other was all just thrown at us in a too compacted resolution. If that hadn’t been compacted so severely I would have rated this much higher. I loved this series and the characters and really got into this universe. It was just the rushed conclusion, after Luca and Diesel got their hard earned HEA, that left me feeling a bit cheated. Even with this rushed conclusion I highly recommend this series. It was a well written and thoughtfully created new universe that captured my attention and held it captive. I would rate the series as a 4.5 Hearts. I do recommend that you read the entire series in order as it is a continuation of each book while it deals with each couple.
