“They took something that belonged to me—
and nothing will stop me from getting him back.”
The Fiores have made their move.
In a last-ditch effort to save their crumbling empire, they’ve managed to take back their heir, landing a blow to the Rossettis—in particular, Dom.
But failure is not an option for Dom, and soon he finds himself at a crossroads:
Follow his father’s orders and leave Luca to the wolves, or defy the boss and get back what he lost.
The question is, will Luca choose to trust Dom to keep him safe even after all he’s put him through, or will he put his future in the hands of his long-lost family instead?
As the war between enemies reaches its breaking point, both Dom and Luca face the most difficult decision of their lives.
Do they fight for their families or do they fight for each other?
REVIEW:
Sinful Mafia Prince picks up right where Forbidden Mafia Prince left off. Two seemingly psychotic Mafia families are fighting over Luca, a pawn in their battle. After being abducted and held hostage by the Rossetti family, Luca was again kidnapped from the Rossettis, this time by their fierce rivals, the Fiore family, who claim to be Luca’s biological family. The rivals agree on one thing: the heads of both families don’t care about Luca. Constantino Fiore, Luca’s biological father, has no sentimentality toward Luca. Dom’s father, Vincenzo, likewise has no care if Luca is killed and doesn’t want him back. Dom, however, is furious and worried. He wants Luca back safely because he now considers Luca his.
First, Dom let his father down by not being able to prevent the Fiores abduction. Now he’s going to disappoint him again by going against his father’s command and setting out with Chef to rescue his man. He has never defied Vincenzo’s orders.
It’s ironic that after everything Dom did to him – kidding, threatening, and being held hostage (everything the Fiores did too) – Luca still wants Dom to rescue him. He’s conflicted; ultimately, he just wants to get back to his old life, his adoptive family, and medical school but Dom is pulling on his heartstrings.
Luca is the first and only thing or person/ that makes Dom want something more than being the heir to a Mafia family. He wants balance in his life but can’t have it. After getting Luca back they run to Italy to hide and they’ll see if they can reconcile their vastly different lives. Away from the violence in New York, they’re able to achieve more balance and let their relationship develop.
The pace of this book is much slower than its predecessor yet the cliffhanger resolved too quickly. I would liked to have seen Dom struggle more and longer to rescue Luca from his captors. There wasn’t quite enough action. Also, there were a couple of loose ends or storylines not fleshed out enough. We didn’t see Luca confront his adoptive parents about their role in the Fiore’s scheme to hide him. I think we should’ve seen more of the conflict between Dom and Vincenzo over Dom’s homosexuality. And finally, I would like to know how the Rossetti family changed now that their years-long vendetta against the Fiores was concluded.
Despite having wanted more depth and complexity, this is, overall, a good conclusion to The Malvagio Duet. The basic plot is interesting and unique and Dom and Luca are likable characters (even though one of them is a cold-blooded killer). Fans of Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine will be satisfied. Recommended.
