I can’t say I love summer. I hate the heat (always have,) the bugs (I’ve had some bad reactions to bug bites,) and I end up being lazy too often and gaining weight. I prefer the spring and autumn when I can be more active (that heat and bug thing.)
I’ll confess to being more of a homebody, than a travel enthusiast – although it depends on the destination. I enjoy seeing new places – which is very touristy I suppose – but I’m not thrilled about living out of a suitcase or sleeping on a bed that isn’t my own. (I’m particular about my mattress)
While I’ll admit that playing in the ocean during the family vacation isn’t so terrible, I prefer to wander around a new place, seeing how different things are in different cities. Unfortunately, having a school aged child, my time to go is usually the summer, and that brings me back to the heat and bug – again.
I’m also not very good at relaxing. I know people who can curl up with a good kindle . . . I mean book . . . and be totally happy. Not me. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good book, but generally I only read at night. I can’t just sit by the water like some people and just chill. I wish I could. Those people I saw at the beach who just sat and watched the water, seemed very content. I tried, and I even took a picture of me attempting to attain that Zen moment, but it didn’t happen.
With the end of summer – which I know isn’t for another 25 days – I always feel motivated to get stuff done. Much more so than after New Year’s Day. I’m sure it has a lot to do with being conditioned that school starts in late August or early September, and that is when we restart our brains and roll up our sleeves. I also think it has to do with my seeing cooler temperatures coming and I can slough off the ennui that sets in during the dog days of summer. I actually have a lot planned between now and the end of the year, so even if it’s just a mental thing, it’s a real thing for me.
I’ll let you know how it’s going next month (when summer is officially over. 😊)

Andy Gallo:
Andy prefers mountains over the beach, coffee over tea, and regardless if you shake it or stir it, he isn’t drinking a martini. He remembers his “good old days” as filled with mullets, disco music, too-short shorts, and too-high socks. Thanks to good shredders and a lack of social media, there is no proof he ever descended into any of those evils.
Andy does not write about personal experiences and no living or deceased ex-boyfriends appear on the pages of his stories. He might subconsciously infuse his characters with some of their less noble qualities, but that is entirely coincidental even if their names are the same.
Married and living his own happy every after, Andy helps others find their happy endings in the pages of his stories. He and his husband of more than twenty years spend their days raising their daughter and rubbing elbows with other parents. Embracing his status as the gay dad, Andy sometimes has to remind others that one does want a hint of color even when chasing after their child.

I can totally sympathize with your thoughts on bugs and heat.
Especially since I now reside in Texas!
Texas?? Wow! and Nope. lol I visited a few times in the summer and it was too much for my poor northerner blood. 😉 I’m thinking far northern Canada, in one of those ice crags for my next home lol. JK, Kinda, not really.
Hopefully your bug season will end soon.
