Broken Trust doesn’t give Second Chances…
Holden Wright had it all—and lost it. Five months ago, he was on top: a decorated detective with a bright future. Then his father’s gambling destroyed everything. Left with nothing, Holden works nights at Jake’s Bar with no idea how to get his broken life back on track.
Brent Northwood has it all—except the man he loves. Brent made a deal with the devil to become a well-respected lawyer, but success doesn’t turn out to be all he ever wanted. His love for Holden started with a wild, crazy hookup in the rain, but it all came to an abrupt end when Brent lied—with best intention—but a lie is a lie and Holden can’t forgive.
Holden needs the successful lawyer back in his life about as badly as he needs the bullet hole his father put in his shoulder. But with secrets from Holden’s past threatening his future, Brent is the only one who can protect him. The two men forge a volatile truce to stay one step ahead of danger, but is it enough to mend the broken trust between them? Can they risk a second chance for love knowing what’s at stake?
But none of that matters if they can’t find out who is trying to take Holden down…

REVIEW:
I literally couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book! AG Meiers has become a must-have author to me.
Holden Wright was Con’s partner in the Boston District Attorney office’s anti-corruption task force. All went to hell when his farther, Boston Police’s Captain Wright Sr., not only tried to kill Con and his boyfriend Jake but wound up shooting Holden instead. Now all of Sr’s dirty laundry is out for all to see and Holden ends up without his career that he put all his time into. Brent Northwood knew he screwed up royally with Holden during the time Con was in hiding. Yes, Holden was a prime suspect in how the undercover assignment went bad. And yes, Con paid the price for the leak with his body, but Brent knew Holden was at his wit’s end. Now, five months later, Holden still won’t even speak to him let alone be in the same room as his former lover. When Brent is ordered by his biggest client (who is Con’s famous mother) to find a little black book Sr. supposedly has all his dirt on everyone he did illegal business with he needs Holden’s help. Plus it’s in Holden and his family’s best interest to find that book sooner rather than later. When Holden comes home to his shabby apartment tossed he knows he needs help. But can he put aside his hurt feelings and learn to trust Brent again?
I couldn’t wait to get to the bottom of who Brent Northwood really was. I knew he was the Santiago-Conway family lawyer known as “The Fixer” and he and Con diid not get along and was hoping to figure out why. I knew that Con thought of him as his Mother’s puppet on a string who would take care of anything the Senator needed handled. I also knew something big was up between Holden and Brett and the epilogue in End of the Line confirmed Brett’s feelings for Holden. Brett turned out to be a poor little lost and abandoned boy who just wanted safety and protection. Holden playing with his heart almost did him in. And Holden’s lack of trust from his growing up with his gambling addicted father scarred him too. These men were meant for each other to heal and learn to trust and love.
I know the side characters at Jake’s bar seemed like a looney group but Jazz and Sheldon have worked their way into my heart. They take care of their own just like their boss Jake. I love this group of guys and can’t wait to get Sheldon’s story and get to the bottom of Damon’s. I know Damon was Jake’s boyfriend that stole from him and then disappeared. This is sure to be a good one.
I was thrilled that we got to see Jake and Con so much and that Con and Holden were working hard on their friendship. And it is so wonderful to see the transformation in Jake. And that Holden and Brent were being accepted into the tight knit Jake’s Bar family. Because that is what they are…a family!
I do highly recommend that you read this series in order. This book is a continuation of End of the Line and the events that transpired in the first book that lead to Holden’s resignation from the Boston PD. Fantastic series that I can’t wait for more of!!!
