Who knew taking my little mage on a date would be so difficult?
With so much change happening at the house—three shifter kids are a lot to handle—Mads and I have been too busy to spend much alone time together. So I figured a date night was in order.
Too bad every time we try, we have to put a fire out somewhere. At this rate, I’m not sure I’ll ever get to take my mage on a date.
REVIEW:
This is a short novella from Cosmo’s point of view it was a lighthearted fun read which was a nice change of pace after all the drama of The Shackles That Bind Us Book 2.
It was fun to see the lengths Cosmo went to, to try and set up the perfect date for Mads and how every time inevitably it went wrong, had to be cut short or cancelled. Mads and Cosmo’s relationship is deepening, and they find themselves more connected by the events in the prior books and Mads is finding is slightly easier to trust that this might be forever not just for now scenario for him.
It was also great to see more insight into the other pack members, the arrival of the children they adopted. The dynamics within the pack and how Cosmo is the rock they all rely on. They have found their own piece of happiness and acceptance away from the bigotry and hatred of the outside world.
When Logan is hurt and is sent to hospital that bigotry and hatred rears its very ugly head, the whole pack rushes to support Logan and Cosmo pulls out the big guns in the shape of his Shifter Council Membership to get Logan transferred to the non-human side to be treated.
You also get an insight into how the other teams are treated by their human Captains and Cosmo’s increasing resolve to make changes that will help both Shifters and Magi. I am excited to see where this resolve might take Cosmo and Mads and what role Mads might play as he is acknowledged as one of the most powerful Magi though he tries to keep this under wraps as much as possible.
I loved that Cosmo finally managed to set up a successful date night, and it showed how much he loves Mads and understands his needs. The description of the date was lovely and transported me into the date. It was everything that Mads deserved and showed the true depth of their feelings for each other.
A lovely short story that made me laugh as well as seethe at the blatant injustice in this world.
