Synopsis:
Can a veterinarian lose his V-card before turning twenty-five? Oh, one hun p he can!
On the surface, I’m super sassy and just a little bit extra. But underneath, I’m hiding a painful secret from my past and one hugely embarrassing problem in my present—I’m still a…I’m still a…Dammit, I can’t even get it out.
Let’s just say it starts with V and ends in irgin.
Daly’s the new barista, and he takes Thirsty Thursdays to a whole new level. He’s drop-dead gorgeous with a sexy shaved head, ocean-blue eyes, and an insane smile that lights me up whenever he aims it my way. He’s also kind, friendly, and interesting. In other words, the perfect guy to be my first time.
A night of too much coconut tequila leads to us making a drunken pact. Daly will help me with my V-status issue, but he adds a caveat. We have to get to know each other first. Then, and only then, can the physical stuff happen.
It sounds simple enough. But the more I get to know him, the more I realize what we have is more than just a physical attraction. We share a connection. We like the same things. And stupidly, I’ve gone ahead and caught feelings for the guy.
This was never meant to be anything more than just a physical thing, so why has Daly got me going out of my mind the way he does?
“Busy day at work?” he asks. “Not too bad. Steady, but manageable. You?” Daly doesn’t reply straight away. “It’s been okay,” he finally says, lowering his chin.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say my question has made him uncomfortable. I have no idea why, though. In an attempt to lighten the vibe, I lean over the counter. “Can I confess something?”
He lifts his head, the twinkle returning to his eyes. “Sure. Go ahead.” “Before you took over this bakery, I never came with Gus on Thirsty Thursdays. But from the first week you started, I would get shitty with Gus if he didn’t ask me to come with him.” Daly smiles, his cheeks reddening. “Seriously?” “Yeah.” I match his smile as I feel an unexpected wave of confidence rush up in my chest.
“I know we don’t know each other, but I think you’re really nice. It’s not often someone gets me so tongue-tied.” “I’m flattered.” And blushing. And cute as fuck. And man, I wanna slide my hands all over that sexy, bald head of his. “Can I get you something to eat?” he asks, before my thoughts can veer further into any more inappropriate territory. “A cake? Donut? The cinnamon rolls Jeremy made this morning are to die for.” “No, I’m not really hungry, but thank you.”
Daly puts the finishing touches on my drink before sliding it over the counter. I slip him my card. His eyes gleam as he stamps a hole into it. I take a sip of my coffee. Neither one of us is saying anything, but the air around us pulses with static electricity. I’ve never experienced anything like it before. “Thanks,” I say, paying for the coffee and tucking the card back into my wallet. “The coffee is great. As always.” “No problem.” His lips twitch. I’m smiling, too. And how silly is this?
All we’re doing is standing here, making small talk, but it feels as delicious as his coffee tastes. He steps around from behind the counter, and my eyes roam down and take in his strong, solid chest that tapers down to a small waist and what appear to be two trunk-like legs under that dark denim. “You’ve got eight more coffees before you get your free one.”
“I guess I’ll have to come back here eight more times then. I’m a firm believer in getting value for money.” He chuckles, but then his face goes all serious, and it looks like he’s building up to something.
He swallows thickly before asking, “Can I get your number?” “Oh?” “Yeah. Just to follow up on your coffee order today and make sure you were happy with the service you received.” I take a step closer, closing some of the space between us. “Oh, I’m very happy with the service I’ve gotten. Great coffee, and man, the barista. He’s cute as hell.”
He breaks out into a huge grin as he gives me his phone. I place my coffee on the counter while I tap in my contact details and hand it back to him. He dials, and my phone buzzes in my pocket. “Cool, now you’ve got my number, too.”
He sends a hopeful smile my way. “I’m looking forward to seeing you again, Tyler.” “Yeah.” My cheeks are burning from smiling so much. “Same here.”
