REVIEW:
It was a joy to return to Fox Hollows, this book picks up where book 1 finishes with Noah recuperating from his imprisonment by the Huntsman. Drew is his recovery buddy, and it turns out they are fated mates.
I really like the fated mates’ aspects of this series, instead of the typical wham bam we are fated mates and instantly in love. This is a more nuanced approach where their animal sides are totally onboard and urging them to get on with it. Whilst their human sides are more cautious and wanting to go slowly and learn about each other, after all they have all the time in the world or do, they.
It was interesting to see how their long distant relationship developed and how creative they are in connecting with each other despite the long distance involved. Then the action really takes off, it was totally unexpected but so brilliant. Noah witnesses the murder of a cryptoid and captures it on film. He realizes the danger he is in and flees for his life. What I was expecting to be a dash into America with Fox Hollow being the battleground. Turned into a nail-biting dramatic trek across the wilderness. It literally kept me on the edge of my seat, it was so well written, and you could feel the tension rise as you turned the pages. I particularly loved the snarky conversation between Noah and his Lynx, you could feel the deep bond between the two of them and how much they relied on each other. It was wonderful to have this duality explored in such an entertaining way.
Meanwhile Drew knows something is wrong but is in Fox Hollow with no idea where Noah is. You can feel his desperation to rush off and do something, anything to find his mate. It was interesting that he turned to the Fox Hollow psychics and sought answers from the strange dreams that both Drew and Noah were experiencing.
The tempo of the book is perfectly measured, switching between the action-packed desperate trek across country with the supernatural descent into investigating their shared past. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I am looking forward to book 3 in the series, wondering where the next book will take us.
