There’s no antidote to the malignant craving for power and wealth.
Landry Carran should know better than to get involved in yet another murder mystery, but it was hardly his fault that someone dumped a dead body on the doorstep of Treasure Trove Antiques. He can’t resist recruiting his friends to help him play detective.
Meanwhile, Landry’s partner and Dom, Gage Roskam, is doing real detective work that proves hazardous to his health and brings with it the assistance of an annoying Englishman who Gage believes should be behind bars.
The case twists and turns across Seattle’s antique trade, and the bodies multiply. As clues are solved, it becomes apparent that those closest to Gage are in grave danger. He’ll need to control his errant sub, deal with the most irritating Brit ever born and solve the case if he wants to prevent more death.
Reader advisory: This book contains scenes of violence, abduction and murder.
REVIEW:
Bright and early, with a delicious red behind, Landry is heading to his shop Treasure Trove Antiques, to find to his horror a dead body.
It seems he’s the owner of a shop Penton’s Antiquarium, and his employees aren’t sad about his death at all.
Detective Gage Roskam is Laundry’s partner and Dom, he’s the one who will investigate this case, with assistance from James Ellery, “the Brit”. Ellery is annoying, still, he is of use to Gage.
When there are more dead bodies it’s obvious something is going on in the antique world.
Besides the investigation of the case, we can also follow the development of Gage and Landry’s relationship and their interactions with friends slash colleagues.
Their Dom and sub dynamic is very playful, Landry is obedient and loves punishment,
Gage is willing to torture him a bit, there are some lovely scenes to enjoy, a lot of obeying so a lot of punishment.
While Gage explicitly asked Landry to stay out of the case, Landry can’t help himself, yes he gets in trouble.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked this read, but there were many distracting side things, for me, it was a bit too much. I scrolled a bit through the pages to find something that spoke somewhat more to me.
I loved Landry, he is a theatrical, drama guy, you can only love him. Gage was a great Dom for him.
The story has a lot of playful banter, fun, and entertainment and besides the crimes, it was lighthearted, and slightly developed.
Overall a nicely written story. The mystery part was not my favorite, the Dom/sub part was more my thing.
