BLURB:

Cal and his brothers turned their backs on the family business over a hundred years ago – but Hell is tired of waiting for them to return.

Cal

I’ve never wanted a relationship – especially not with a human. With my father demanding my return to Hell and a demon leaving dead bodies in my bookshop, now is not the time to be losing my heart. But one look in Oscar’s broken eyes and I know I’m in trouble. Oscar’s been hurt before and everything in me is screaming to keep him safe. How can I do that when I know being with me will only put him in more danger?

More importantly though, am I strong enough to walk away from him?

Oscar

After escaping my last relationship with broken bones and an anxiety disorder, I’m tired of living half a life. My world revolves around my classroom, flat, and best friend. When fate throws Cal in my path, he seems too good to be true. Not only does he look like he’s been pulled from my fantasies, but my baggage doesn’t scare him. Ok, so there’s the tiny issue of him being a demon, but I’ve dealt with far scarier.

I’ve been broken once before, and I don’t think I’d survive it again. Can I pull down my barriers enough to let Cal in?

‘Devil’s Mark’ is a thrilling high heat, hurt/comfort, M/M contemporary paranormal romance with a HEA and no cliffhanger. It features a possessive demon and the broken teacher who captures his heart. ‘Devil’s Mark is the first in The Reckless Damned series but can be read as a standalone. Each book focuses on a different couple and will have a HEA.

Trigger warning for emotional abuse and domestic violence in a previous relationship, anxiety attacks, and descriptions of violence.

REVIEW:

Cal is a very interesting “man”. He’s never been in love with anyone, not surprising considering his history. So when Oscar falls into his lap, it’s understandable that it takes him a minute to figure out what’s happening. It’s a good thing he always follows his instincts.

Oscar has had a hard go of things, and he has more reason than most not to trust people. Especially big men who can carry him like he weighs nothing. Cal’s arms are the only place Oscar has felt safe for a very long time.

It’s been awhile since I was this taken by a story. Oscar is so easy to love and he so deserved his happy ending. His bravery is even more amazing because he has so many reasons to be afraid.

Cal and his brothers made me laugh so much. But they also broke my heart. I saw a line about movies the other day that I loved. “I don’t like comedies but I do love dramas with a great sense of humor.’ That’s how this story feels to me. Mori and Harlow are sarcastic and funny and I really can’t wait to read their stories. This is book one in a series so I’ve got to hope that the author has something planned!

It’s a really great premise for a story too. Got me interested but then held my heart hostage throughout the whole thing. It’s the first time in a long time that I literally couldn’t put a story down without finishing it.

Lark builds a great world for their demons to live in and I was really impressed with the small details. I won’t give anything away, so don’t ask what they are, but trust me, this author is wonderful. If the supernatural is one of your go-to genres then I think you will love this story. Also, you got size difference, over-protective demon, family drama and all the good stuff.

I’m very happy to give this story a 5 outta 5! Now, how can I get a hold of the sequel in a hurry???
