BLURB:
Harry Standish returns home from Waterloo expecting a quiet reunion with his family. Instead he finds his sister’s reputation ruined and his mother in a state. The culprit: Simon Beaumont, rake, wastrel, and co-owner of the London gaming hell Perdition.
A duel isn’t an option. Given Harry’s skill it would be little better than a murder. But he means to have it out with Simon and force him—somehow—to undo the damage done to his sister. When he walks through the doors of Perdition, he finds himself out of his depth, in every possible way. Simon isn’t at all what Harry expects. He’s beautiful. Charming. Sly. And, most shockingly, eager for Harry’s attention.
Simon is accustomed to every form of sophisticated debauchery—in fact, he presides over it nightly. But a rough-mannered soldier with no understanding of the rules of London society takes him off guard. Harry may not be Simon’s usual fare, but he’s irresistible.
For Harry, Simon’s his greatest enemy since Napoleon was finally sent packing. Harry’s insistent that Simon undo the damage to his sister’s life. Simon only wants to clear his own name. Until both of them realize there may be more to win, or lose, than reputation…
REVIEW:
Simon Beaumont is one of the owners of The Perdition Club. He enjoys his life and the business he’s built with his friends. When one evening a man appears and accuses him of trifling with his sister, well it’s quite a surprise. First, Simon doesn’t really go for women. Secondly, he rarely leaves London and thirdly, he has no idea what the man, one Harry Standish, is talking about. But Harry is about to cause a scene and so he removes him from the card room. While trying to explain that he in fact has no idea who the man or his sister are, Harry takes umbrage. Which ends in a rather peculiar way 😉
Despite Simon’s protestations, Harry doesn’t believe him. But when his story is corroborated, Harry realizes he’s made a grave mistake. After returning from the Napoleonic wars on the continent, he’s more than a match for any man. He has, however, vowed to make things right for his sister’s sake. Too bad Simon isn’t actually the culprit. Although on second thought, it’s not so bad because Simon is definitely something alright – just not for any lady 😀
Simon is lucky enough that the true culprit shows up without invitation – looking for a handout a usual. Despite Harry’s first approach of Simon, he’s grateful to have Simon’s support to put everything to rights – oh and to make Simon his as well 😉
This was a much lighter story that some of the others in this series and quite enjoyable. There are a lot of sexy times with Harry and Simon and it’s a bit instalovey, but very entertaining and well written. If you’re looking for a rather light Regency romance with some mistaken identity, cads put in their place, apologies that lead to blow jobs, then this is the book for you. A fun book with engaging characters. Recommended.
