TRAV
I remember the first time I met Dylan Rodriguez. It was one sweaty encounter I’ll never forget. The second time we met, he arrested me. I can still see the hot scowl on his beautiful face as he slapped handcuffs on me and realized I was … me. Dylan’s main goal in life is to forget he ever met me. My goal is to make him mine.
Turns out, I’m better at this game than he is.
DYLAN
When my law enforcement career falls to pieces in front of my own eyes, I don’t know who I can trust. I have nowhere to go. No one to turn to. Asking Trav for help is a last resort, but I’m desperate. If he can’t get me out of this mess, I may as well turn myself over to the guys hunting me down.
I’m not sure which will be more difficult: protecting my life or my heart. Because when it comes to love, my heart wants what my brain doesn’t. It wants Travis West.
REVIEW:
Rogue begins in an “exciting” fashion with cock as the fifth word in the book. I wholeheartedly approve! What follows after that first scene is another awesome action romance in the Mike Bravo Ops series. Besides the love story, the best part of this novel is the found family of approximately a dozen men (and one woman) in the private ops company.
You’ll remember Trav West from Iris as the founder of Mike Bravo. Trav is a retired Army Ranger whose time in the military was difficult as a gay man. His objective is to “give queer vets a second chance in the safe environment” of Mike Bravo. They are a crazy and utterly delightful group of badass men who each fits the description of grown-ass manchild.
Dylan “Rogue” Rodriguez is a DEA agent who over the past seven years has played a cat and mouse game with Trav as they’ve occasionally done each other favors nabbing perps. When Dylan now ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time, he finds himself in mortal danger. He doesn’t want to go to Trav for help but he’s the only one who can protect Dylan. What ensues is a fabulous forced proximity, enemies to lovers, highly steamy story.
It turns out Trav loves being Dylan’s protector. He’s been lusting after Dylan for the past seven years, but he now finds he wants more than sex with his adversary. I enjoyed his matter-of-fact attitude, being upfront with his feelings for Dylan and making it clear a deeper relationship is unavoidable; it’s fated. Dylan, however, isn’t completely onboard.
Eden Finley excels in the action romance genre. This series is my favorite of hers. Oh, how I love relationships between alpha males. There is one glaring plot hole regarding tracking devices that bugged me but not enough to detract from the exploits much. My only real complaint is when Dylan wore a mankini. All I could envision was Borat, and he’s the farthest thing from sexy. Nauseating is more like it.
The flirty and fun banter between Trav and Dylan is entertaining. I absolutely adore the banter and camaraderie among the guys of Mike Bravo, also. I’ll never get enough of their “It’s cute you think…” remarks to each other. Iris and Saint, the heroes from the previous book, have fairly prominent roles.
If you read Iris, this is a must-read, and if you’re new to the series or the author, go back and begin with the first book. Both are great escapist fiction. Highly recommended.
