REVIEW:
This one kept me intrigued and guessing the entire time!
Detective Miguel “Con” Conway is on special assignment to the Boston Assistant District Attorney office. She has a special task force working on police corruption. Con is undercover working when he is made. The mark’s goons beat him severely and lock him up in the basement of the place he’s sent in to. Luckily he is able to escape, literally running for his life. When trapped in a dead end alley his luck turns miraculous when a bar owner discovers him and, in a case of mistaken identity, brings him in to work at his bar. Jake Devlin, owner of a newly popular gay bar in Boston is desperate for an employee when one of his main workers, who has created the frenzy his bar now has, didn’t show up for work again! Luckily the guy “Con” that he keeps promising will cover for him actually showed up at the back door right when they were desperate. But when Jake looks a bit closer at the gorgeous young man he realizes that someone has beat him up. Jake not only offers a job to the young man but a safe place to crash on his couch. Little does he know who/what he’s opened himself up to.
Who wouldn’t fall for Jake? He might project a rough persona but in all actuality he’s a really nice guy that takes care of people in need. His youth/childhood might have been rough but he has a heart of gold and will always look out for those in need. His bar and it’s people are his chosen family. So you had better never mess with anyone that Jake cares about. And that now includes his Con!
Con may have been born with the literal silver spoon in his mouth but that’s not who he is. He is loyal, brave and a fierce protector of the City of Boston. Bad cops and drug lords are the scum that he is sworn to take down. But when his cover is blown and he’s literally beaten severely he has no where to turn. His partner is MIA when he escapes and he doesn’t know who he can trust. Thankfully, through a minor mixup, he is taken in under the sexy bar owner’s wing.
I loved how these two strong, gorgeous men overcame their hang ups and learned to depend on each other. Was it an easy time…heck no! These two are stubborn men that need to be in charge and protect those that are important to them. Those strong wills were made to clash but clashing leads to learning and then trust. And through trust we’re able to finally learn to lean on the other instead of constructing more walls that needed to be torn down.
I can tell you that this book really grabbed hold of me. The men were believable and you couldn’t help but to hope that they finally could be together. I am loving this series already and can’t wait for more.
