He’s a regular guy and I’m a prince. Can we find our very own fairy tale?
Being Prince Donovan of Westfordshire comes with a lot of responsibilities, some more unpleasant than others. When my parents drop an arranged marriage on me, I know this is one duty I have no intention of following.
I take off, hiding out in small town America, intending to let things die down back home before going back. I didn’t plan on falling for a sweet grocery clerk with mesmerizing blue eyes and an easy smile.
What starts out as a brief fling turns more serious, and I lure him back home with me to start our future together. He’s a fish out of water, my parents do not approve, and everyone is watching my next move, but Judd is perfect for me.
I’ll prove to him and everyone else he’s more than fit for a prince.
REVIEW:
I will state for the record that I’m very conflicted with this review. While I really enjoyed the first part of the book and the interactions that quickly lead to romantic feeling and love between Donny and Judd. From their cute-meet to their quickly falling for the other. It was a fast paced romance that made me yearn for a happily ever after.
Unfortunately Donny held back from Judd who he was until Bert showed up to bring him back to fulfill his duties as Prince of Westfordshire and in so blew his cover. I could have lived with them making up after declaring their love. However, next they were whisked off on a private jet to spend the holidays with the Royal Parents. That’s where this entire story took a huge nosedive. Prince Donovan aka Donny had already fled the country because he wasn’t happy with his life there. But he springs Judd on the parents without so much as one word spoken to either of them about just how important Judd is to him. He has Bert tell them he has his plus one with him but doesn’t ever show them who Judd really is to him until it’s almost too late.
The book went down hill faster than an Olympic skier after their arrival. From his mother’s deplorable actions and outright nastiness to his fathers ignorance of what was happening around him and then suddenly basically accusing Judd of being an unworthy gold digger after Prince Donovan for money and fame. He literally had just learned who/what he was two days prior, after having a constant relationship for three months! And never once, while Judd sat there did he really defend him. Sure he asked they sit together but caved to sit next to the arranged fiancé that fawned all over him while Judd sat at the other end of the table being ignored. And don’t get me started on how accepting everything went when he finally grew a backbone and stood up for himself to his parents. But that was after Judd fled the country. And then it’s all suppose to be fine and they fly back again? Too much!
I did like the part that Bert, his butler who was more like a parent to Donny than his parents were, played. He seemed to have his heart in the right place for the Prince and then Judd too.
Oh and Donny was so worried about paparazzi in the first part of the book and then they are announce as a couple at the Christmas Eve Gala at the castle. Then he’s returning to work at a bakery in a small town in America. The paparazzi would have flooded that tiny town. Makes no sense. And I thought for sure there would be some kind of Christmas Eve proposal, especially after Donny bungled the first trip so badly but no mention of marriage after it slipped out earlier.
As I stated, I really liked the love story of the first half of the book and wish it would have ended there but the second half was pretty disappointing. I don’t know that I can recommend this book because of all of the sorrow caused for Judd and then it’s suddenly okay. I guess it just wasn’t the book for me.
