“On the rebound, but still totally hung up on his ex.” That was as much as they were getting from me. “I’m not even looking anymore. I can’t be arsed with all the drama. I’ll stick to Grindr or my right hand.”
“Eww, nasty man!” Gus fake gagged.
“Which one are you more offended by, babe? The app or the palm?” Max asked as he nuzzled Gus’s neck.
Sawyer poked Max. “Leave him alone. Christ, this is work, not your bedroom.”
“Anyway”—I stowed my bag into my locker—“like I said, I’m not looking for anyone, not if it means I end up as sappy as you all are. It’s sickening.” I nudged Sawyer, letting him know I was only teasing, then walked out of the breakroom and towards the bar.
The thing was, I meant it this time.
“That totally hot guy is here again, watching every move you make,” Sawyer whispered to me. I grunted in reply. I knew exactly who he was talking about. For the last six months, I’d seen the guy in just about every pub or bar I’d been in. He had never spoken to me, even though he looked my way constantly. Besides, he always had his girlfriend with him. Tonight was no different. He was sitting with a mixed group of people. He was still hot as fuck and was staring at me every now and then. The same girl was hanging onto his every word and touched him at every opportunity.
“Not interested. He’s with that girl.”
“Not really. She just wants him to be,” Sawyer said with a grin. “He’s not interested in her.”
I shook my head. “Are you sure? I’ve seen her with him a ton of times.”
I wasn’t going to be some guy’s experiment, which was how it felt after all this time. The last hour of the night, I studiously ignored the table Hot Guy was sitting at. Sawyer seemed to get the hint and took over serving that group.
Finally, time was called, and they all settled their tabs and left. I let out a long breath and relaxed. Sheesh, had I really been that wound up by him? Hot Guy was the last one out the door, but not without one more long drink-me-in gaze. I stared back, unable to look away however much I wanted to.
