I’ve never been a strings-free sex type of guy, but when my best friend encourages me to have my first ever anonymous hookup, I figure, why not? One night of steamy sex with a stranger and then I’ll focus back on recovering from my toxic break-up.
Only I’m not prepared for how incredibly hot the sex is.
Nor am I prepared to run into him again.
Because it turns out my anonymous hookup might not be so anonymous after all…
REVIEW:
Lane is still trying to recover from a bad breakup, but his best friend thinks she has the solution. She drags him out to something to help him heal and boy does he ever.
The guy is smoking hot and sweeter than pie. Their anonymous sex leaves them both reeling and Lane can’t get him out of his head.
But you know, sometimes it’s just fate.
The first thing that comes to my mind about this story is that it’s one of the sweetest I’ve ever read. There’s not a lot of angst and that’s okay because it’s short and I hate it when authors rush through something serious.
Lane resonates with me and I think will appeal to a lot of people, because we all know how hard it is to find your confidence once it’s been crushed by someone.
There’s nothing surprising about this story. There was no doubt it was heading for a super sweet and funny happily-ever-after, but this time it really was about the journey.
And it was a smoking hot journey too. The sex was steamy enough but didn’t take over the whole story and that’s the sign of a pretty darn good writer. The older I get the more I appreciate “good story telling” over “nothing but sex.” As much as we might wish for it, there really is not such a thing as a “healing dick”.
The author did a great job of their world building. I feel like they might have actually spent some time around teenagers because they were portrayed just right! And who doesn’t love a sassy but supportive best friend who steers their bestie in just the right direction?
This was my first Jax Calder book but it won’t be my last. If you’re looking for a smile like I was today, this is definitely your low-angst treat. I hope you enjoy it just as much as I did. Seriously, I read it in about an hour, so how’s that for devouring a story!
