Luca stuck his hands in his pockets and Clark wondered if he’d hit on a sore subject. “It’s good.” He met Clark’s gaze. “Niko seemed to think I wouldn’t be able to handle it, but I’ve been enjoying it.”
Something in his eyes dared Clark to defy his words, like Luca was preparing for a fight the moment Clark opened his mouth. Clark gave him a small smile. “That’s great. I’ve never been one for having a lot of people in my space either.”
The tension in Luca’s shoulders leaked out and a smile pulled up one side of his lips. For a moment, they watched each other as a thread of heat unraveled, stretching between them. Luca looked down with a pink tinge staining his cheeks.
“If you were, uh, planning to come into Viridian this week, Magnus is running specials starting Thursday for the new seasonal ales we’re getting in.”
“If I don’t catch another case, I’m off Friday.”
He took a step back toward his car. “Cool. Maybe I’ll see you then.”
Clark already knew he’d move heaven and earth to be sitting at that bar on Friday. “See you then.”
