TITLE: Jonty and Devan’s Big Day
SERIES: Unfinished Business
AUTHOR: Barbara Elsborg
PUBLISHER: Self-Published
LENGTH: 144 pages
RELEASE DATE: May 20, 2022
BLURB:
It’s going to be the day of their lives—their wedding, their way, where it all started: The Dunes Hotel in Northumberland. But from the moment the planning starts, Jonty is overwhelmed. When Devan’s mother starts making suggestions, Jonty’s mouth runs away with him and his inner Groomzilla is in danger of escaping. But it’s when Jonty goes quiet that Devan knows he’s in trouble.
Devan’s not going to let his mother spoil their perfect day. Suddenly, he’s a man on a mission. The venue? Booked. The guest list? A secret. The stag do? In Cato’s somewhat dodgy hands. Devan’s going to do whatever it takes to make sure Jonty gets what he wants. Even if that includes alpacas and penguins and the Northern Lights in the middle of summer. Now it’s time to prove he is the Best Fiancé in the Entire Multiverse.
REVIEW:
I love being married,” Jonty said. “I wake up every day thinking I’m so lucky that I’ve found that one special guy who I can annoy for the rest of my life.”
I adore this big ball of fluff that is Jonty and Devan’s Big Day. If you’ve gotten this far in the Unfinished Business series, you must love irrepressible, lovable, and laugh-out-loud funny Jonty Bloom as much as I do. And then there’s his fiancé, Devan, who is Jonty’s perfect match. He’s so sweetly indulgent of Jonty’s ever wish and whim and takes immeasurable pleasure in marking his beloved happy. Devan’s proposal in Jonty’s Halloween is proof of this. (Don’t be surprised if the T-rex costume appears again, along with alpacas and penguins.)
The book begins with Devan and Jonty arriving at Devan’s parents’ home. Considering Jonty’s relationship with his future mother-in-law-zilla, Jonty is, of course, reluctant to go inside. She’s a nightmare when it comes to meddling in the wedding planning. (Hint: she’s not a fan of alpacas and penguins.) It made my blood pressure rise; I can’t imagine how much it upset poor Jonty.
This is a highly romantic novella. Jonty and Devan are so in love. From November, when the book begins, to July, when the wedding is planned, there are snippets from each month of all the little gestures and gifts Devan surprises Jonty with. The final surprise occurs at the wedding and I wasn’t too keen on it at first. Jonty got over it, though, and so did I. The vows are darling – Devan’s poignant, meaningful ones and Jonty’s silly, comical ones.
I enjoyed the inclusion of several of the other series characters, including Cato and Vigge, Tay and Ink, Winnie and Charlotte the dogs, and Major Bagshot and his dachshund, Dottie.
This really is a precious book. As I’ve said before in my reviews, I can’t get enough of Jonty and Devan. They should have a book for every holiday, every season, or for no reason at all. Their banter, Jonty’s shenanigans, and Devan’s faux exasperation make my day. Highly recommended.
