The lawyer, the diva, and a new adventure…
Life is good. A few years ago, I met someone special, came out as bi, fell head over heels, and married the love of my life. A man. But not just any man.
Aaron is a confident, unapologetically fabulous diva who isn’t afraid to take chances. I love that about him. New state, new career path…no problem.
Except things don’t always go according to plan. That’s okay. It might be the perfect time to get back to basics and check off a few items on our original list…like buy a house and start a family. Whoa! House first.
However, house hunting isn’t glamorous at all, and with my partnership at the law firm in the balance, it’s kind of stressful. Everything we’ve dreamed of is within reach—if we can just find a place that feels like home, we’ll be better than good.
REVIEW:
We have been part of the journey of our favorite couple, Matt and Aaron for quite some time now. We have seen the challenges that they have met and how they conquered it. We have seen their love grow more and more all through these challenges. There were times when I want to knock some people out in their lives just to let them see some sense. But I think there are reasons why such things happen in one’s life, right?
In this last novella we will see our lovely couple packing up their stuff and going back to DC after a year and a half in New York. It has been a rough time, things happen in the fashion magazine industry that they were not able to foresee and it didn’t turn out well, both for Aaron and the magazine. But life has to go on. So they started house hunting when they arrived home. They have put this off because of the promotion that Aaron got that led them to New York.
Matt never thought that house hunting could be so exhausting and soul-crushing. They have seen quite a few houses and all of them are money pits waiting to be bought. Every house they have seen so far would require a lot of work. Because they do have a budget to work around and they want the neighborhood to be gay-friendly and nice. And also the real estate agent who claims to be straight keeps on flirting with his husband. At this rate, Matt thought, they will never find the perfect house for them.
But one great thing about being home is that they can babysit Henry and Holly Reynolds-Morgan, the twins of Jay and Peter, their best friends. It can also be kind of practice for them when they have their own someday. Another bonus, they can see their family and friends as much as their time would allow.
Aaron has been struggling with how his career turned out because of New York, he is back in his old position in the magazine, but it is lackluster, the spark is not there anymore. So Matt advised him to quit, as far as he is concerned, they are fine financially. He just got a raise, although the partnership he was promised has not happen yet. Aaron is very good at what he does in the magazine, he can actually do everything on his own, online. Because that is what happened in New York, because of the down turn in the economy and people turning to online publication more each day, they had to close their New York office.
It has been a very challenging life for Matt and Aaron, but now they are back home, they found their dream house, surrounded by their friends and family. Although the house is a fixer-upper, it will look great once all the repairs are done. Their neighbors and accepting and their families/friends are always there to give them the support they need. When Matt got offered the partnership he was promised but at the risk of moving, again, to LA, he said no. In the end, they were able to work things out where Matt is still base in DC but occasionally travels to LA to help out, with Aaron with him.
Now they are ready for their next adventure, children! An amazing story all throughout, I want to thank Ms. Lane Hayes for the adventures with Matt and Aaron and Congratulations, this is one of the best love stories I have ever read!
