Synopsis
Rob’s current goal in life? Do not eat people. That’s easier said than done when you’re a kelpie in the service industry. While Rob pursues his goals from behind the bar, a stranger walks in, and Rob catches the man’s scent. Yet, patrons are not for eating, and it should have ended there… except when Rob smells that delicious scent again, the beautiful stranger needs help.
Bertrand wants to fit in, but because he’s part Fae, part Elf, and grew up human, he’s not really at home in either human or supernatural society. Still, he likes being a reporter and following a story all the way to its conclusion. The story he’s pursuing when he walks into Rob’s bar one night is one of supernaturals going missing, and Bertrand seems to be the only one who cares.
Meeting Bertrand might just shift Rob’s life goals. Coming face-to-face with a kelpie stallion might be enough to help Bertrand see where he fits in perfectly. Except Bertrand doesn’t really know what to make of Rob, and also, Bertrand’s missing persons story is bigger than even he envisioned. It’s turning into a case of abduction and trafficking he needs to unravel before he can even think about Rob’s advances. The story will lead Bertrand to some dark places before the year is out.

“I’m fine,” Bertrand said, but his voice was catching, just a little bit.
Rob got up and leaned over Bertrand. He kissed Bertrand, and Rob tasted of sugar, vanilla, and the red juice of summer berries. “That’s good, Snowdrop. Because I’m not done with you. I need to do this again, soon.”
This time, there was no way for Bertrand to stop himself from blushing or from more or less stuttering through the rest of the conversation. Rob fed him a second helping of the damned addictive crumble and poured him some more coffee into a thermos mug to take with him on the go.
“Email me your phone number,” Rob said when he was trailing his fingers around Bertrand’s cheeks by the door. Bertrand had his coat and gloves on and was ready to leave while at the same time… thinking that maybe staying would be nice as well, just watch the river flow from the couch and sip coffee while Rob zoned out and growled possessively.
But Bertrand pushed those thoughts away. “Sure.” Bertrand looked down at his feet, but Rob pulled his chin up.
“You can stop by the Ragdoll for lunch if you want, and you can either come over for dinner, or I can cook for you at your place.”
Bertrand’s eyebrows flew up. “What?”
Rob kissed the side of Bertrand’s mouth. “Told you. I’m not done with you. And I told you I’d take excellent care of you. I’m making you dinner, sweetheart.”
Bertrand swallowed. “I might end up working late.”
Rob shrugged. “I always work late. Doesn’t bother me.”
“I… I shouldn’t. I should focus on getting the police to take notice. There’s this cop I see sometimes.” The hurtfulness of his own words hit Bertrand like a train crushing a chicken. He had no idea why he had said that, other than he was too scared to deal with a relationship with a supernatural. That had just never been on Bertrand’s vision board, so he’d struck out in order to hit Rob before… before Rob changed everything.
The kelpie growled, and his dark eyes darkened even further. “You are mine, Snowdrop. You are not seeing anyone anymore.”
