Today is newsletter day!
Actually yesterday was newsletter day. Today was me being late with the newsletter!
Sometimes I am. Which annoys me, because it’s important to be consistent with something like that. You have a finite space in anyone’s brain, and are an even smaller proportion of their inbox these days, so you need to make sure that if they think ‘Isn’t that coming today…’ that it comes today. However, life happens. In this case Jax, the #writingstaffie, got a bad stomach and had to be taken to the vets. He ate poison when he was a puppy and it could have been a lot worse, but his belly can be a bit delicate and if it gets upset it doesn’t seem to pass without probiotics and anti-emetics. So my day was spent chasing him around with a syringe of sweet brown paste that was apparently poison and trying to stop Izzy from leaping on her brother and biting him at every opportunity.
But I tell people that. I try and be as transparent about why I screw up as I can. I think that people can understand when stuff just gets on top of you, as long as you try and catch up and don’t repeat it again too soon. (Which I have, because it’s been a stressful as balls few months.)
Thing is, though, I just like doing the newsletter. I’ve no idea of it’s a good marketing tool or not. I just find it fun to collate a whole bunch of weird stuff that I think is cool and wave it at people. I would NOT think that if I still had to use mailchimp or constant contact. They are really solid, reliable tools? But I remember spending a Friday evening with the newsletter open on three different computers as I scuttled around trying to add stuff without throwing off the extremely finnicky HTML. However, there are a bunch of great options out there now that are just plug and play.
It’s not as interactive as twitter, but sometimes that’s…good? Like sometimes when you throw your weird preoccupations at the wall, you don’t want to know how much that was Only for You!
…in other news, I’m wrecked and I have a migraine. So I’m going to keep this post short and sweet with a bunch of puppy pics and a suggestion you come and check out my newsletter! To whit:
