America. The land of the free. Unless you’re a latent.
Kage is missing. Alexander Kempthorne would prefer he stay that way. Life at the new-look Kempthorne & Co agency is difficult enough without adding a missing American to the mix. But John “Dom” Domenici won’t abandon someone who was once their friend, even if Kage is technically an enemy.
But as the team investigate Kage’s disappearance, his traumatic, hidden past comes to light. And a missing persons case soon turns into a fight for survival for Dom and Kempthorne, in a land not-so-free.
***
Breathless action, suspenseful mystery, and steamy romance combine in the fast-paced gay adventure series from the author acclaimed for their enemies-to-lovers, epic twists, and morally conflicted characters.
Please note the Shadows of London series is predominantly set in London with British characters. Although the series has been edited in US English for the US market, to include US spelling and grammar, many English slang words and spelling remain as part of the character of the work.
REVIEW:
NOTE: This is book 4 in this series. They need to be read in order.
This time the action moves to America. John is insisting that he has to go after Kage – even though his note had said not to do that. When John’s old military supervisor who totally screwed him over tries to contact him, John’s not having it. But then the military and the IRL come after him. There HAS to be a connection between Kage’s disappearance and Sawyer reaching out to him, right?
When the get to New York, an old family friend has agrees to sponsor them. Trent has other designs on Alex though. Dom sees through him right away, but Alex is quite surprised at the proposal Trent comes up with. In the meantime, it seems someone wants them dead if the number of sniper attempts are anything to go by. But how is this all tied up with Kage? A visit to his father sheds some light on it. But John continues to believe in Kage and when Kage calls him, John tries to figure out how to find him. And it’s all tied up in old family business.
But the LOA and the military are after them. When Dom is taken and Alex has to find him, Trent is not a lot of help. Thankfully Gina in London has some ideas. But it’s clear that the military is after Dom and Kempthorne and they will stop at nothing to get them. Too many of the people that they have trusted are not at all who they seem to be. And it’s anybody’s guess how they are going to be able to get away and get back to London now that that the jig is up. And what about Dom and Kempthorne’s power? Why does everyone want them so badly?
Oh my god!!! Every time I think it’s over, it’s not! Now there is a book 5 coming??? GAH! Like the previous book, this one is a rollercoaster ride from page 1 to the end. John and Alex are still trying to figure out their relationship and they have to rely on each other. When they confess their feelings, things seem to be a little better, but they have trouble coming at them from every angle. John wants to trust, but he always feels like he’s a few steps behind. Alex knows he has to keep Dom safe or it will literally kill him if something happens to Dom. And of course he knows more than he shares with Dom. The ending – OMG! I did not see that coming. And there will be more. Damn it! I can’t wait for the next book. Highly recommended – this series is on fire!
