BLURB:
I understand that sleeping with the boss is a bad idea.
To be fair, I was already sleeping with my co-worker.
And yeah, we all live in the same bunkhouse on a ranch in the middle of the Central Texas Hill Country, but we’re professionals. We can handle it.
Besides, I’ve made it pretty darn clear that I am in no way a relationship guy.
Am I trying to hide a mountain of pain after losing the unrequited love of my life? Sure…but we don’t say that part out loud.
I’m just trying to figure out who gave Joaquin and Colt permission to go off and start something on their own. I thought our boss / co-worker arrangement was pretty good, especially after that impromptu three-way.
But now they’re excluding me.
It almost feels like they’re trying to make me jealous.
Not that I’m jealous, or whatever.
Besides, I could never love someone as much as I loved Renée. There isn’t a single person in the world who could take her place.
Huh.
Is it possible that I need two people to show me how to love again?
Age gap, hurt-comfort, MMM
REVIEW:
Note: This is the fourth book in this series and contains major spoilers for the previous three books. I recommend those books as well and also recommend reading them in order 🙂
Well I have been super lucky lately and have had a lot of great books to read. I have loved this series since Goodnight and I feel like each book has just gotten better and better. I particularly love that even while this love story is developing throughout this book, the characters from the previous books are here supporting these men 🙂 I found Joaquin to be such an intriguing character in the previous books and it was a lot of fun to really get to know him in this book. Colt is such a sweetie! It was clear in the past books that his “hookup” persona was circumstantial because of his life on the rodeo circuit rather than his true heart. When Luke and Sparrow paired off, it was good that he found comfort in Wick until it wasn’t because he got feelings. Joaquin joining them at the ranch as the new foreman really provides a whole new dynamic to all the relationships – Wick and Joaquin who have a friends with benefits arrangement, Colt and Wick who have a friends with benefits arrangement. But then Colt, Wick and Joaquin have a threesome that shifts things a lot.
It’s clear that Colt has feelings for Joaquin. When Joaquin confesses that he too has fallen for Wick, the two of them determine that they can provide comfort to each other. And soon they are developing feelings for not only Wick but each other as well. Joaquin is aware that Wick was in love his Renee Goodnight and after her death, he just really shut himself off from all feelings. He’s the kind of the hookups. Joaquin is his one rulebreaker because they were both on the same page. Or so he thought. But then Wick is not quite as oblivious as he pretends to be. He realizes that Colt has a soft heart and that he’s definitely developed feelings for Wick. But it’s only when he sees that maybe Colt and Joaquin are “spending time” together without him and he begins to see that Colt and Joaquin might have more than just sex – that there is definite “squish” happening there.
Joaquin and Colt are not oblivious to Wick’s jealousy however 😉 So they conspire to make him even more jealous in an attempt to get him to recognize and acknowledge his own feelings. The path for Wick is both humorous and filled with pathos as he deals with his past. Meanwhile Colt has some family business to deal with as well that gets a little tangled with Wick’s. But in the end, Wick is able to admit his heart’s desire. Oh the feels for everyone 😀
This series is sooooooo good. I hadn’t read any Kelly Fox until this series, and now I’ve read everything 🙂 I’m sorry this series, is over, but I see where there will be more and we’ll get to revisit these guys again. I can’t recommend this series and this book highly enough. There’s plenty of angst, feelings, love and sweetness. Read it!
