BLURB:
It’s the summer before his final year in college and Jacob Franklin Wolcott III is spending his time in Stoney Brook, Maine, a picturesque lobster town on the coast whose biggest claim to fame is the annual Tallship Festival.
The son of an oil magnate and top of his class, he doesn’t need to work—especially not as a bartender and dock hand—but he does need the few months away from all of the expectation and pressure, an escape that Stoney Brook grants him every year.
That escape gets complicated when William Waters sails over the horizon and swaggers his way into town for the Tallship Festival.
A travel blogger sailing the world on an inherited schooner, this tall, tanned, and handsome hunk is about to rock Jacob’s boat and knock his carefully charted plans off course.
Is this Boy on the Horizon Jacob’s anchor in a safe harbor, or is he bound to be the storm he can’t weather?
REVIEW:
This might, no probably will work for you. It’s a beautifully written story of finding love. My problem is I want, no that’s wrong, I NEED my HEA! I need the two boys to fall in love and the logistics to all work out and the go off in the sunset hand in hand. Not to say that this wasn’t a wonderful love story and that is wasn’t filled with love from all directions. It is and it was. It just lifted up my hope. And left me in tears. I did love that Jake discovered that the townspeople not only knew his secret but embraced and loved him. That he found love in different ways and felt the warmth of their love for him. They accepted him for who he was. That was super special.
I especially loved his best friend Natalie and Miss Maggie, the grand dame of Stoney Brook, Maine. They made this book and eased a tiny bit of my heart.
I will say that Jake was extremely trusting and brave (?) on their first date.. To agree to something that intense without a fair amount knowledge of the person and their abilities, let alone not even knowing what it is, is either reckless or a bit crazy. It seemed way outside Jake’s usual more careful character. But the chemistry between these two were off the charts.
All in all, this was a well written book but not necessarily the book for me. As I stated before…I need my HEA, no matter how hard fought it takes. And I had hope. Right to those very last words penned I hoped. I truly wish that the author had expressed that this story has a bittersweet conclusion. It was more shocking considering that this series of books are novella that have featured boys finding boys on this special weekend and falling in love. They are stories that burn hot and are filled with at least HFN if not HEA’s. This did not and that was what made the ending even more shocking and, in my humble opinion, very disappointing. A bittersweet book needs a disclosure and this didn’t have that courtesy to the readers.
