Summer romance is not for those who are led by their heart.
For Jonah Thomas, life is wake up, eat breakfast, go to work at his family’s restaurant Ahoy Matey’s. Lather, rinse, repeat. Next! His hometown, the sleepy little Stoney Brook, Maine, doesn’t offer much for someone like Jonah.
He’s not really living and has no clear path in front of him. Jonah merely…exists.
Party boy, Micah Hannigan is determined to enjoy the summer before his final year of college. Stoney Brooke, Maine is not on his bucket list. Two weeks there with his family is a life sentence, especially when his friends are living it up on the beaches of Florida where he should be.
Micah has plans, lots of them but he’d never factored in meeting the beautiful and intriguing Jonah Thomas.
It’s crazy how love always finds a way when you least expect it.
REVIEW:
This one had me on the edge of my seat until the last pages!
Nineteen year old Jonah Thomas has lived a pretty solitary life growing up in Stoney Brook, Maine. He works with his Mom and Dad at their restaurant. He spends his evenings taking his loyal companion, his 3-year old chocolate lab Sadie, on long walks and playing video games. For some reason people just haven’t been the attraction that his friends in school had found. That all changes in a heartbeat when the very attractive and outgoing Micah Hannigan walks up to his restaurant. Micah finds the shy young man both fascinating and intriguing. Where twenty year old Micah’s usual MO is a “one and done” that doesn’t hold true for Jonah. He wants to get to know this wonderful young man that he’s sure is very sheltered and untouched. And this confuses him. Both men are instantly attracted to each other but what comes next when Micah and his family’s vacation ends and he heads back south?
I fell for both these men immediately. There is no way on earth that you won’t fall totally in love with Jonah. He is the sheltered young man that discovers who he really is and blooms and grows under Micah. His discovery made so much sense but never would have been found without Micah help. Although labels weren’t important to either man. Micah also realizes “that day” has come in his life. The day boys become men and playful times are replaced with a loving and committed relationship.
I do find it hilarious that Micah fell so far into the small-town mentality that he forgot all about modern inventions and what they do! I loved seeing that he realized his blunders and kept trying but it was sad to see how that blunder resulted in the consequences it left.
I really, really loved this story. Yes, it was short (but all the books in this series were meant to be) but it was full of discovery, non-judgement and acceptance. Of being able to be unique and that being okay. Of love! I highly recommend that you take this journey with these two amazing boys that found love one summer and ran with it. I know you won’t be disappointed.
