Kit Briar is starting over. At thirty-three, he thought he had his life planned out, but a devastating revelation sends him back to his hometown, desperate to make a life for himself and his son.
“Sometimes, a single kiss can lead a person down a road they never expected.”
Lawson Craig never meant to fall in love with his hot new neighbor, his life’s complicated enough. Except Kit and his young son fulfill a void he did know he had. The more he tries to fight against the mutual attraction, the harder it is to stay away.
“If it came down to it, I’d let him go. I’d let him go because he deserves someone so much better than me.”
Lawson and Kit find themselves in a whirlwind romance. They fall hard and fast, but every choice comes with consequences and neither of them are prepared for what happens when their blissful bubble pops. They’ll have to learn to trust in each other and what they’re trying to build in order to get the happy ending they’ve both always wanted. When every road seems to lead to heartbreak, how will they ever find forever?
REVIEW:
This was quite a different story than I expected. It has no average content. I’m not opposed to reading about it, but for many, it’s just not their cup of tea. I don’t wanna spoil, a story like this needs a chance, certainly because of the way the author pictured it.
If you must know the content on forehand what I’m talking about, read reviews from others.
Kit, and his almost four-year-old son Linden, are back in Kit’s hometown. After he separated from the mother of his son, who cheated on him, he turned back to the family he needs and who loves him, unconditionally. Besides the cheating, she’s not the best mother.
On the day he moved and all the helpers are gone there was a knock on his door, it was his neighbor who brings over cookies as a welcome. Kit invites Lawson inside and something almost inevitable happens.
Let’s just keep it at that.
You could think it’s sweet and nice, they like each other, they build a life together and blah blah blah, but oh no, it’s not that simple. It’s hugely complicated!!
The story is about choices and consequences, erratic or defensible, it can go every way, it’s what you make of it. On the path of love there’s acceptance, hurt, and resistance, it’s all unavoidable!!
“What we did might be wrong, but we’re human and humans make mistakes.”
The author did a good job, creating a sensitive complicated narrative, and approaching it with all care.
Without being the main Kit’s dad William was a steady rock of strength, I loved him.
Kit and Lawson were mature and kind. Lawson was awesome with Linden. They deserved their happiness, it wasn’t easy, it’s a road full of cobblestones.
I know a lot of readers love to read about families with kids, to a certain point me too, but it was a bit too much for me, even though I know it’s important for the whole picture, I get that.
While I liked the story and its sincerity, I couldn’t wholeheartedly connect with the main characters, maybe because of the awkwardness of the situation? I’m really not sure why yet.
The author has a captivating way of writing, the story is widely written.
I admire, even though with all the family fuss, there’s still order and it’s clear. There are a lot of family members we get to know, and there are certainly a few you want to know more about. I’m so curious about Weston and Landry their story.
I wish everyone was as mature and mild in real life as the characters in this story.
