Isaac had lost Michael once. He wouldn’t survive a second time…
Michael
Five years ago, he became the alpha of the most influential London pack. Responsible for monitoring and suppressing the human resistance, also known as the Candidate Evacuation Group.
A group he’d secretly founded.
Now exposed and on the run, labelled a traitor by his peers, he finds refuge in the home of the man he left behind. The only man he’s ever loved.
For Michael, that love burns as bright as it always has, but they’ve been apart a long time. He can’t expect Isaac to still feel the same.
But he can hope.
Isaac
When Michael left for London after the war, he took Isaac’s heart with him, promising to return when the time was right. But that took longer than either of them expected.
Now he’s back, with the whole of the Shifter Alliance Party out for his blood. But being together is hard. Long-buried feelings bubble to the surface, and rekindling an old romance is low on the list of priorities—they have a rebellion to fight.
Isaac will protect Michael with his life.
Always.
But trusting him with his heart again isn’t nearly as easy.
Uprising is an angsty MM paranormal romance with second chances, suspense, and all the feels.
REVIEW:
Note: this is book 3 in this series and it does not work as a standalone. You need to read this series in order.
Michael McKillan, head of one of the largest and most powerful packs in London had a big secret. Despite what happened after the Rebellion and the Shifters took over and became worse than the humans who subjugated and abused the wolves, Michael has been working to right the wrongs of the past and create a world in which humans and wolves live and rule in peace together. He’s been essentially “under cover” for these last years, slowly building and supporting the networks of those who have the same goal. That is to wrest control away from the Shifter Alliance Party and provide a path forward for both humans and wolves. Of course this isn’t going to be easy and with Michael painted as a traitor to his own pack, the stakes are incredibly high.
Isaac Motheombe, head of the Mothecombe pack was Michael’s lover before everything went down. They agreed to this plan, but neither knew it would take years for them to be together again. In the intervening years, Isaac has been doing his part with the resistance. He’s been waiting for this reunion. But it’s not what he expects. There are a lot of unanswered questions. There is a fight ahead that will put everyone’s life in danger. And at the end of the day, what will Isaac and Michael decide?
The longing to be together is subsumed by the duties of both men to lead their packs in the uprising to right the wrong of the past. Michael is full of guilt and self-loathing for the things that have occurred in London as he was slowly building support and putting people in place and things in motion for this confrontation. Neither man knows what the future holds, but they do know that they still belong to one another. There are twists and turns to the path that they follow. At the end, there are decisions to make.
So wow. In my opinion each book in this series is even stronger than the previous tome. This one shift away from the previous spotlight protagonists of Cole and Logan to Michael and Isaac. These two alphas have a history and what they set in motion years before left them separated for far longer than they anticipated. The actions and decisions during those years apart make for some difficulty when they are finally reunited. They are different men now and how can that work in a world where they are fighting for their lives and to set right what went so wrong all those years ago. The crux for these two is that what it means if they survive and win. Is there any way forward for them when this is over – if they survive. I loved that once again, this author provides some real surprises. The unexpected twists in both this book and the previous were superbly done – did NOT see that coming. I absolutely adored this series, even more than her previous shifter series that I had read. There is a lot of interesting parallels with today’s political climate and I’m just fascinated by the way she pulled this off. While this appears to be the end of this series, I do hope maybe someday we’ll get some more peeks into this world. Highly recommended!
