All American Boy Series
Jeremy Riley fell in love with sailing when he was a troubled teen and sent away to camp for the summer. Now he’s sailing for a living. Getting a bachelors in vessel operations was the best thing that he could’ve done. Most of the year, he’s on the ship helping with hands-on education for the New England Maritime Academy.
The bright spot in Kendall Winters’ life is his daughter, three-year-old Savannah. How his sister had deserted Savy when she was diagnosed with cancer and needed her the most boggled his mind. Her loss was his gain — and there was no way he was ever giving Savy back to her. Now if he could find someone to share Savy’s highs and lows with, that would be amazing.
A summer trip to the Tall Ship Festival to get away from his parents and let Savy explore ‘boats’ seems like the best idea. Sun and sea for him and Savy sounded perfect to him. Add in a gorgeous sailor with eyes that sparked with mirth? Sign him up.
REVIEW:
One of the best things about a series like this is that you are introduced to new-to-you authors. Getting to discover Kris Jacen has been a real treat.
Kendall Winter’s young life has been all about his sweet girl. Savy is only three years old but she is the bright spot in his world. When his sister Merry, Savy’s biological mother, walked out of the doctor’s appointment explaining Savy’s leukemia to have a smoke and never to return Kendall took over as her parent, eventually legally adopting his Sunshine as his own. Savy’s love of big boats (although she calls them “big butts”) leads her Dall to take her to the Tall Boats Festival. When Jeremy catchs the tiny mite, when she slips away from her dad, confusion leads to chemistry as the second mate on the lead tall ship and the dad get to know each other. But can this become a real thing with Kendall busy at home with his precious daughter and work and Jeremy doing his first love sailing the seas?
These two men just clicked from the moment they got over the initial awkwardness of their first meet. It was great to see Jeremy take to Savy so quickly and the attraction of the men were explosive but not rushed. I really loved seeing Jeremy being there for Kendall and not rushing for the one-night fling you would typically expect. It became obvious that both men we not just attracted to the other but a special bond was forming between the two and around Savy. After her rough start at life, between her druggie mom and her leukemia, she deserved the best.
This was a fast paced novella that hooked you with sweet Savy and her men. I wasn’t expecting the dramatic twist that Kendall’s family provided but it definitely added to the story.
