“You’re mine, whether you know it or not.”
Jasper has too many scars to count and even more secrets to bury. His only saving grace is his violent line of work, where broken men like him can thrive. As a mailman for the Road Devils Club, his job is to deliver illicit goods – and tear apart anyone who gets in the way. The relentless schedule is almost enough to distract him from his inner demons. Almost.
But then Maxwell shows up, a captivating wrench thrown into the carefully arranged gears of Jasper’s life. Maxwell is everything Jasper isn’t: sunshiny, clueless, spirited. Not to mention he seems free of the forbidden inclination that plagues Jasper.
The close proximity of their work is suffocating, yet electric. Their days are spent together on the road, their nights in motel rooms, sometimes with only one bed to spare. And the life and death battles in between only serve to bring them closer.
After they share a devastating loss, the comfort they find in each other changes everything. But if they give in to their desires, they would be risking more than ever before.
Is there a way out of this life? Or will they have to hide their spark forever?
Spark is a dark M/M romance set in an alternate timeline where shifters exist, but are an oppressed minority. Prepare yourself for the full gamut of emotions on this twisted road trip, along with sparks that ignite in knotty steam. Each book is a standalone HEA romance, though previous characters appear in later entries as the found family grows.
REVIEW:
A brand new first time author with an intriguing parallel universe where being gay will cost you your life!
Jasper has been a mailman with Fitzy for three years with the Road Devils Club. Being a mailman takes all his thoughts and energy. Energy best not used on his base needs. Being attracted to a male is forbidden and two alphas together is strictly forbidden and will cost you your life. So, after a long and grueling two weeks on the road, Jasper is shocked that not only does he feel “the Spark” but it’s with a new club member who is also a male alpha. But it was his life mate connection! And he’s assigned to them on the long road trips. Now what the heck is he suppose to do?
Although the author spent a great deal of time building her universe I am left with more questions than answers. I can’t tell when this book is set in a timeframe but come across as during sometime in the 1980’s. There doesn’t seem to be cell phones but just land lines. And the MC’s use paper maps not gps. Plus they have to go find answers to questions in reference books in the library. And being gay is considered a deviant act and punishable by death. Plus the one character carries a boom box and Nintendo game system in his suitcases. And my biggest question is what kind of club was this? It sounds very much like a motorcycle club however they are driving cars.
As for the ending…I felt like Jasper and Maxwell are a committed couple however their story seemed to end on a cliffhanger. Then I’m concerned because the blurb states “Each book is a standalone HEA romance, though previous characters appear in later entries as the found family grows.” so now I’m unsure if we get the answers to what happens with them or not. They are lifemates and my hope is that they find a place where they can be safe and accepted for who they are and who they love.
I will warn you that you should read the tropes and content to see if there are any triggers that could cause you concerns. There is blood/violence/death that is part of being a mailman for the club.
A fairly good start to a new series but I am left with more questions than answers still.
