Sometimes you have to face the past to heal old wounds.
Craig Donaldson has been through a lot in his life. There is one good thing that has come from it, his son. Owning his own business is hard but he’s making it work. Landing in the hospital after a car accident brings into his life someone he wasn’t sure he needed but isn’t positive he’s willing to opening himself to exposing himself to more wounds.
Dr. Hobert “Bobby” Pearson loves his job at the hospital. Being the disappointment of his family, isn’t something he is happy with. It seems as though when he gets close to someone he feels could start a real relationship with, they show up and he’s again, left alone. His family leaves fresh wounds in their wake. This new patient he has, however, hits all kinds of emotions inside him.
Will they be able to heal together? Or will past pain keep them apart?
REVIEW:
A fast paced, quick read novella of a single dad that will sacrifice everything for the sake of his son.
Craig Donaldson will do anything for his 12-year old son Cody that he has raised alone from just after the boy was born. His ex-wife Angela wanted nothing to do with him or their son because he was gay and would infect their son. After being left by a hit-and run that crashed into him and sent home to the hospital, Craig now has to deal with his ex that suddenly wants back in Cody’s life since his team won the Little League World Series and is on television. But her demands to get Cody back puts a stop to his budding relationship with his previous doctor, Dr. Bobby Pearson. Bobby has demons he is always battling with since his family disowned him for being gay. Can he survive Craig’s rejection when he is in a battle for his boy. Or can he stand strong and weather the court outcome?
This was a really quick read novella that provided more plot development than most books this short. Was the insta-lust fast paced…sure. But you also got how these men became who they were and what demons they fought on a daily basis. You couldn’t help but cheer them on because they deserved each other and so much more. These were honorable men that had to fight the homophobic curses that were their families.
The brightest spot in this short book was Craig’s son Cody. It was obvious that he loved his dad and wanted him to be happy and have someone in his life. His pushes were there to help his dad transition from a dad-only life to a life with both his son and a chance at love with his boyfriend.
