Dominus—an incubus who runs a brothel called The Twig & Berries—is bored with his life and customers alike.
Sebastian—a changeling faerie swapped at birth for a human infant—is reeling with the knowledge of his true heritage. Unsafe among humans, he travels north to meet others of his kind.
But danger lurks, and when Sebastian is forced to hunker down with Dominus for safe harbor, the tension between them flares hot.
Sebastian is the only person that’s piqued Dominus’s interest in ages, but he’s fae. And Dominus has reason to despise faeries.
Forced together as trespassers infiltrate the territory, will enemies become lovers or will a curse keep them apart forever?
REVIEW:
I’d like to start with an apology to the author, Lee Colgin. I sold my house and moved to a new city recently and completely lost track of everything…including the review of this wonderful book.
Lee Colgin is an awesome world builder. This is the second book I’ve read in this series and I’m blown away by the intriguing details they have put into the places that Sebastian and Dominus live their lives in.
Sebastian is sweet and kind and has recently lost his whole world. Nothing is as he thought and he isn’t sure where to turn and who to trust. When the man who is taking him to his future is called away on personal business, Sebastian has no choice but to stay with Dominus at the Twig and Berries.
Dominus knows he should keep Sebastian at arms length. He has reason to hate Sebastian’s kind but the young man is the most interesting creature he’s seen in a very long time.
The chemistry between them is irresistable and it isn’t long before they are dropping their guards around each other.
But the real world barges back in and then there are choices to be made and maybe a few miracles as well.
Dominus has everything Sebastian doesn’t…friends…family…a home. But things can change.
I very much enjoyed this story. It’s sweet and funny with just enough tugs at the heartstrings to satisfy my angstwhore self. The author paints a pretty and detailed picture of the Twig and Berries, the staff and the town it’s all in. There is just enough historical detail to make it all feel “familiar”.
Sebastian is a wonderful character. He’s a lot stronger than he gives himself credit for, a trait encouraged by Dominus. Dominus tries to be aloof and tough but is won over by Sebastian against his will.
If you enjoy a “historical” fanstasy with great characters and a compelling storyline, then The Changeling will definitely work for you. I also encourge you to read the other stories in the series. I know I will be.
