A man isn’t defined by the worst moments in his past, but they can be hard as hell to leave behind.
Fresh starts are overrated. I’ve lived in Gaynor Beach my whole life, and I’m damn proud of it. I miss my wife like hell, and a grumpy mechanic may not make the best single dad, but the kids and I are doing okay right here. They’re not complaining—maybe because they’re never home. Teenagers.
Then a fresh start falls into my lap when the hottest man I’ve ever seen has his car quit on him. And if I can’t forget the feel of his arms around me when he rode on the back of my bike…well, nobody needs to know that except me.
But now Micah’s introducing me to worlds I’ve never been a part of before, or even imagined I could be. Worlds with ropes and explosive chemistry and adventures much bigger than our rides in the Southern California sunshine. Being with him feels like the biggest risk I’ve ever taken—and not everyone in town wants us to take this chance together.
I hope we can hang on when the ride gets bumpy.
JAKE is an angsty opposites-attract Romance in the Single Dads of Gaynor Beach world with a grumpy mechanic, a sunshiny high school teacher with a secret, size difference and a few first times, and three teenagers who are more perceptive than their parents bargained for.

REVIEW:
Wow oh wow, did this one take me on a ride!
Jake has been a single dad for the last seven years. Seven years since his high school sweetheart, wife and mother of his children, Willa was killed by a drunk driver. Seven years of raising his now 17 year old daughter Whitney, who is graduating high school this year. Seven years of raising his younger son Tommy, who is now twelve and in middle school, without a mother leaves Jake second guessing if he’s doing enough for his kids and being a responsible parent. He has no life except working at Norton Automotive, where he is a 25 percent owner with his life-long best friend Rip. Working and his kids are his only concern since Willa passed. He didn’t date. He just “ never made it a priority. Never knew anyone I wanted to date, so it was easier to kick that can down the road.” That is until he finds the gorgeous Adonis high school art teacher stranded beside the road with a broken down car. Now all bets are off. But will it remain that way when Micah’s secret past becomes an issue? Or will that past become the key to opening Jake up to new horizons???
Hot and steamy! I loved watching Micah unravel the many layers of Jake. And I loved that Jake challenged Micah to not give up on his true nature. These men complimented each other and helped satisfy needs that were long buried and needed to surface. I know that Micah was the big, tough Dom but watching Jake come to his rescue and take down the town bully that had tormented so many for far too many years was extremely satisfying. Brent was the type of bully that I have seen way too often in small towns. He has the money and was the football star so everyone bowed down to him. But he didn’t have the balls when confronted with the truth and it showed how weak and pathetic he really was. I hate this kind of person and wanted nothing more than to see him crumble. It was appropriate that it was Jake that did it. The years of abuse needed vindication and Jake was the perfect one to wield it.
- I loved the side story of Jake’s Tommy and Micah’s Jayden. I know they are too young now but I would love to see this story develop eventually. They are good friends and there seems to be much more to their story to develop over time.
I was thrilled to see that the other bully got taken down too. Willem flaunted his wealth and power over Jake for too many years. His attempts to take his sister’s children after she was killed was horribly wrong. Thankfully the kids realized what and who he was. Their love for their dad was touching and well deserved. Jake may have thought he was failing his kids but, in truth, he was their rock and hero.
Charley Descoteaux has a way of developing small, costal communities and lets their gay pride and acceptance shine through. I am really looking forward to this newest series and getting to meeting many of it’s residents. I am really hoping 🤞 that we get Rip’s story next. He and Jake were never going to be more than best friends but he was such a good and loyal friend to him. He deserves to meet his mate and get his HEA too.
This is a great book and builds a community that I look forward to visiting many times in the future.
