BLURB:
Zachary Foxx has dreams. He wants to achieve success in his chosen profession, be it blowing open corruption in the sacred halls of government or writing the next great American Gothic novel. Sadly, as a recent university graduate—with student loans to pay—who is used to eating and living inside, he finds his newshound instincts will have to suffer in silence until someone is willing to pay him for his pithy prose, which isn’t happening for anyone of his experience level—or lack thereof.
No, Zac’s journey begins a bit lower in the hierarchy. He’s a junior acquisitions editor at a small publishing house, and he’s been tasked by his tyrant of a boss to convince an unknown author to sign on the dotted line. She sends Zac to woo Angus McMurray with promises of fame and a trip to Scotland—which is exciting until he learns it’s the one in South Dakota.
What Zac doesn’t expect is to meet a neurodivergent woodsman who has no desire to share his beautiful stories about his relationships with animals to achieve fame and fortune. He just wants to share them with Zac.
Thus begins Zac Foxx’s moral dilemma… What’s the price of fame? When he meets a handsome man who wants no part of Zac’s desired level of success, will Zac chuck his ethics and betray a pure soul to achieve his own selfish goals? Does Zac have it inside him to ruin someone who is… Perfect?
REVIEW:
Oh my goodness gracious, this was just…Perfect!
Zachary Foxx has a new job at a small publishing firm. Is it his dream job…absolutely not! But he has a mountain of school loans he need to pay off now that he is a NYU grad and likes a roof over his head and food in his belly so off to work he goes! When his boss, one of the two evil twin sisters that own P&P Publishing, sends him on a trip to woo the new author she wants to sign he’s ecstatic. However Scotland turns out to be a city in South Dakota not a country in Europe and she sends him off with everything he needs with the additional instruction of “Don’t come back without a signed contract or a writer. Stock up on lube, kid. My private investigator told me he’s a big old bear” 😱. Talk about inappropriate and downright illegal of a employer to say let alone expect! Now he’s on his way to SD with his best friend/roommate Luke in tow, just in case. But what he doesn’t know is to expect the unexpected in this quaint town!
I fell for Zac almost immediately. He’s the cute, sweet, starry-eyed dreamer who just does it for me. He still believes in people even though he should be jaded from his life in the Big Apple. And boy oh did he go all starry-eyes and protective of Gus! And that sealed the deal for me. As the grandmother to a teenage boy who is neurodivergent and just started dating a girl, this book gave me hope 💕
This story is told from Zac’s POV and I was beyond thrilled when I got to the end of this novella and found the prologue for 2perfect!!! These guys just got to me and I really needed more of their story. And I am beyond pleased that authors like Sam. E. Kraemer are tackling tough storyline themes. Autism awareness is growing and having a place to read about people like yourself is important. I highly recommend this wonderful story and will be revisiting each time I have doubt for my grand baby. A definite MUST-READ in my opinion! I’m sure this book/series will be on my Best of 2022 list for sure!!!!
